Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent, relevant experience, certification, or license is required.
  • At least four years of relevant experience is required.
  • One of the following credentials is required: Certified Medical Assistant from the American Association of Medical Assistants; Registered Medical Assistant from American Medical Technologists; Certified Clinical Medical Assistant from the National Healthcare Association; National Certified Medical Assistant from NHA-NCCT; or Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant from NAHP.
  • Ability to learn new procedures, technologies, and protocols and adapt to changing priorities and work demands.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others and contribute to a team environment.
  • Proficiency with office software, technology, and relevant computer applications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for interacting with colleagues and stakeholders.
Responsibilities
  • Support medical providers by performing multi-skilled clinical tasks and assisting with patients’ healthcare management and clinical procedures under the supervision of a licensed physician.
  • Provide hands-on patient care while following regulatory requirements, standards of care, and institutional policies and procedures.
  • Recognize and respond to emergencies and practice according to ethical and legal standards.
  • Use culturally competent methods to support patients’ individual needs and respect their spiritual beliefs, faith, and practices.
  • Establish trusting relationships with patients and families, identify and manage discomforts, and provide emotional support.
  • Prioritize and integrate multiple requests and work expectations by performing tasks safely, professionally, and in a timely manner.
  • Communicate clearly and promptly with patients, families, and appropriate team members, and seek assistance when needed.
  • Participate in unit or clinic programs and meetings and contribute to team building and constructive conflict resolution.
  • Use available technology resources for communication, documentation, and locating pertinent information about clinical situations, diagnoses, and treatments.
  • Maintain current clinical practice knowledge and competencies through education, lifelong learning, professional development, and knowledge maintenance regarding assigned patients and populations.
  • Ensure compliance with State and Federal regulatory guidelines, including Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act requirements.
  • Practice within the clinical scope of practice using State, Federal, and University of Miami standards, guidelines, statutes, rules, and regulations.
  • Incorporate protocols and standards of care into daily practice.
  • Accept and provide focused constructive feedback and guidance in a manner that supports growth and maintains self-esteem.
  • Follow ethical behavior standards, therapeutic communication practices, and patient-information privacy requirements.
  • Assist providers with physical examinations by preparing treatment and examination rooms with appropriate supplies, instruments, and materials.
  • Apply medical and surgical asepsis principles and prepare patients for physician care with basic examination-procedure instructions and information.
  • Perform vital signs, electrocardiograms, and phlebotomy, and document findings in patients’ medical records.
  • Clean and sterilize medical instruments while observing sterile technique.
  • Schedule patients for tests and complete required laboratory-work forms.
  • Maintain accurate and complete patient records and documentation.
  • Order, stock, and inventory supplies and assist with clerical duties.
  • Follow University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguard University assets.
