Requirements
  • Graduation from an approved or accredited Practical Nurse program
  • A current North Carolina Licensed Practical Nurse license or a compact Licensed Practical Nurse license is required to begin work while pursuing permanent North Carolina licensure
  • No experience required
  • Ability to find resources independently and work well with others
  • Clear communication with patients, families, visitors, healthcare team, and leadership; able to teach patients and families based on the care plan
  • Ability to process and prioritize information, treatment, and follow-up using sensory and cognitive functions
  • Competent in Basic Life Support and other required life support certifications
  • Proficient in fine motor skills
  • Accurately record activities and document interventions
  • Ability to use computers and learn new software
  • Navigate the healthcare system to provide patient care
  • Able to stand and walk for long periods
  • Stay focused and organized
  • Knowledge of sterile techniques and special procedures relevant to the role
  • Familiarity with administering routine and special treatments to patients
  • Understanding of sanitation, hygiene, and health safety in a hospital setting
  • Knowledge of infection control procedures and safety precautions
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Knowledge of and compliance with Joint Commission and other regulatory requirements
Responsibilities
  • Administer medications and intravenous fluids as prescribed by the doctor and maintain records
  • Provide direct care to patients under the supervision of a nurse or doctor
  • Follow the doctor's orders and nursing care plan for patient care
  • Report patient responses to care to a nurse for evaluation and adjustments to the care plan
  • Assist other healthcare staff in delivering patient care
  • Help doctors and nurses with diagnostic procedures
  • Assess nursing care, patient responses, and prioritize nursing tasks
  • Help develop and implement policies to ensure patient comfort and safety and participate in creating new policies
  • Contribute to maintaining the care environment, including equipment and supplies
  • Identify and assist in improving clinical and operational performance
  • Assist in managing supplies and equipment, reporting any malfunctions to the charge nurse
  • Participate in training programs and help train new staff
  • Perform other related duties as needed
