Requirements

Responsibilities
  • Manage the full cycle of medical services for international patients, ensuring that patients' and families' needs are met throughout their visit.
  • Troubleshoot problems promptly and determine when to involve department service ambassadors.
  • Schedule appointments and verify insurance coverage.
  • Gather pertinent data from international patients, referring physicians, and payers.
  • Prepare pricing and bundled packages, obtain Current Procedural Terminology codes and diagnosis information from University of Miami physicians, obtain letters of agreement and payments from international payers, and follow up with patients and non-contracted payers to collect additional funds.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with doctors, referral sources, staff, patients, and families.
  • Resolve transportation and lodging arrangements for international patients transferring to or seeking services at University of Miami facilities.
  • Serve as an on-call, after-hours contact to assist UHealth International patients with coordinating medical care outside regular business hours.
  • Adhere to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguard University assets.
  • Answer emails, telephone calls, tasks, and inquiries for oncology cases assigned to the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center.
  • Work closely with Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center nurse navigators from various site diseases to ensure patient needs are met in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Complete site-disease training provided by Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center nurse navigators.
  • Follow Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center nurse-navigation site-disease checklists.
  • Request and obtain oncology medical records in English whenever possible, including medical notes or reports, operative or surgical reports, pathology or biopsy reports, radiology reports, radiation therapy reports, and chemotherapy flow or administration sheets with medications and dosages.
  • Advise Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center nurse navigators when a patient case is transferred from a national United States medical facility so records may be accessed through a patient information-sharing site such as the Care Everywhere Network.
  • Review patient financial responsibility, including cost estimates and bundled self-pay package information, with patients or families with assistance from the respective department or UHealth Finance team.
