Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or a vocational school of practical nursing.
  • One to two years of experience preferred.
  • Must have good communication, comprehension, and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have working knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Office Suite, and the Internet.
  • Must hold a current nursing license.
Responsibilities
  • Supervise, provide, and direct nursing care in compliance with facility policies and procedures.
  • Make advanced-level observations, report and record observations appropriately, form nursing judgments, and carry out nursing actions.
  • Follow established nursing practice standards and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Interpret existing policies for staff, families, and physicians.
  • Perform daily rounds and develop and implement accurate, comprehensive care plans based on each resident’s needs.
  • Pass medications and treatments according to established policies and procedures.
  • Order and credit medications as needed and maintain accurate accounting of stock medications, unit-dose medications, and narcotics.
  • Follow staffing guidelines and make nursing assignments.
  • Receive and give accurate reports on residents’ conditions to provide continuity of care.
  • Monitor diets and supervise meal trays, snacks, and resident intake; assist with meal trays, feeding, and snacks.
  • Follow facility admissions procedures and communicate admissions to departments, staff, physicians, and other service providers.
  • Ensure employees follow the chain of command in accordance with personnel policies.
  • Assign nursing assistants and ensure efficient completion of their assignments.
  • Supervise, document, and correct poor performance of nursing assistants, and keep Unit Managers or the Director of Nursing informed of performance problems.
  • Participate in the performance evaluation process of nursing assistants and provide counseling, coaching, and training.
  • Follow written and verbal directions and provide professional communication to residents, peers, families, managers, and visitors.
  • Report changes in residents’ physical or mental conditions promptly.
  • Follow company, facility, and state policies and procedures.
  • Attend staff meetings, in-services, interdisciplinary team meetings, and committee meetings as assigned.
  • Observe environmental conditions such as noise, odors, and cleanliness, and cooperate with other departments to maintain quality conditions.
  • Document resident information promptly, accurately, and confidentially according to procedures.
  • Document changes and notifications to the power of attorney and doctor, and perform comprehensive assessments as assigned.
  • Verify that changeover MARs/TARs are updated correctly and make necessary changes to the new MAR/TAR by the first of each month.
  • Know resident rights and help residents exercise or protect those rights.
  • Report resident complaints to the supervisor in charge while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Ensure resident safety, including properly attaching and checking Wanderguard devices.
  • Demonstrate proper equipment use and report equipment needs or repairs.
  • Use protective equipment and follow infection-control protocols, universal precautions, and life-safety measures.
