- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Verbal communication skills are required to answer the telephone, greet patients and visitors, and respond to requests for information.
- Knowledge of the human development process and the ability to work effectively with patients of all ages are required.
- Written communication skills are required to take messages.
- Computer aptitude is required to use a keyboard and function in a Windows environment.
- Good organizational skills are required.
- The ability to walk long distances while pushing a cart is required.
- The ability to file alphabetically or numerically is required.
- The ability to work weekends, holidays, and rotate various shifts as needed is required.
- Log in specimens, process specimens for reference laboratories, chart and file laboratory information, answer the telephone, and pick up and deliver specimens.
- Perform phlebotomy on outpatients during the first shift.
- Work under close supervision and receive direction regarding tasks and priorities.
- Completion of a course in medical terminology.
- Previous phlebotomy experience.
