Requirements
  • A Master's degree (M.S.) in Biology with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in Biology.
  • Knowledge of biological sciences and the ability to teach biology concepts in classroom, laboratory, and online environments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with and teach diverse populations.
  • Ability to apply traditional and innovative technologies.
  • Ability to develop or implement strategies supporting student retention, persistence, and program completion.
  • Ability to use data and assessment tools to evaluate and improve instruction.
  • Ability to engage students as active partners in the teaching and learning process.
  • Ability to relate biology concepts to real-life situations and applications.
  • Computer literacy and experience using technology in the learning environment.
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Appropriate credentialing to meet current and future accreditation requirements.
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods, present lectures and demonstrations, walk, bend, lift, reach, stoop, and occasionally carry items over 25 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity to operate standard office and electronic equipment and compliance with applicable safety standards.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare syllabi for lecture classes and laboratories.
  • Instruct lecture classes and laboratories for a minimum of 36 semester hours annually.
  • Grade quizzes, tests, and written assignments and enter grades in the Canvas gradebook in a timely manner.
  • Assign final grades.
  • Maintain regularly scheduled office hours to meet with students.
  • Develop and maintain course management through the college's learning management system.
  • Participate in department budget preparation and course planning and development.
  • Assist with divisional projects and programs.
  • Serve effectively on committees or workgroups.
  • Develop and implement strategies to support student retention, persistence, and program completion.
  • Participate in grant writing individually or as part of a team.
  • Complete other assigned duties and responsibilities.
Desired Qualifications
  • Additional graduate work in microbiology, plant biology, biochemistry, or biotechnology.
  • Experience teaching microbiology, plant biology, biotechnology, biochemistry, and associated laboratories.
  • Understanding of learning styles.
  • Experience teaching in an online environment.
  • Experience teaching at a two-year post-secondary institution.
