Requirements
  • An Associate degree in Engineering Technology or Computer-Aided Drafting is required.
  • At least 12 years of relevant industrial experience in electrical and instrumentation drafting and design is required.
  • Familiarity with the current version of the National Electrical Code is required.
  • Ability to perform lighting level calculations; size wire, conduit, and overcurrent protection for lighting and power applications; perform voltage drop calculations; route conduit and cable tray; calculate tray and conduit fill; and determine motor control center and load center unit substation loading is required.
  • Familiarity with specifications and installation details of construction bulk materials and equipment is required.
  • Ability to create accurate electrical installation documents from vendor equipment drawings is required.
  • Knowledge of 15kV power-system equipment and installation techniques, both above and below ground, is required.
  • Ability to develop equipment specifications for 480VAC and 15kV/5kV equipment, including required short-circuit and overcurrent protective-device calculations, with engineering review and approval is required.
  • Ability to develop electrical installation specifications with engineering review and approval is required.
  • Ability to develop construction cost estimates, detailed engineering schedules, and man-hour budgets is required.
  • Ability to determine construction material quantities, develop design criteria and scope of work, forecast hours, develop staffing plans, identify required information, and coordinate with other disciplines is required.
  • Knowledge and application of company engineering design and computer-aided drafting standards is required.
  • Ability to lead a small team and coordinate with the process group on equipment layouts and space usage is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, 2D AutoCAD, and MicroStation is required.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Ability to provide interoffice execution support and leadership in a virtual team environment is required.
  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods is required.
  • The selected candidate must be authorized to work in the United States.
Responsibilities
  • Supervise and provide technical direction to a team of designers when functioning as a lead designer.
  • Deliver electrical and instrumentation deliverables and services on time, within budget, and according to quality expectations.
  • Perform advanced design work as a technical specialist on complex design assignments.
  • Use project controls for project cost, schedule, and quality.
  • Familiarize oneself with and use department design and drafting standards.
  • Recognize and communicate project scope, specifications, and design criteria upon assignment to a project task team.
  • Produce installation details, motor control center single lines, electric room layouts, motor control elementaries, connection diagrams, cable schedules, control panel layouts, grounding, lighting, power, and instrumentation plans.
  • Recognize and communicate scope and design changes promptly.
  • Provide on-site assistance during startup.
  • Provide technical guidance to less experienced drafting personnel.
  • Coordinate work activities with staff members and the discipline lead.
  • Provide the discipline lead with project status, including delays or improvements to projected completion dates.
  • Produce 480VAC equipment specifications with engineering review and approval.
  • Produce 15kV/5kV equipment specifications with engineering review and approval.
  • Produce electrical installation specifications with engineering review and approval.
  • Lead and coordinate design-staff efforts to achieve scope, schedule, and budget objectives.
  • Mentor subordinates.
  • Participate in team and cross-discipline checks to ensure coordination between design disciplines.
  • Check other designers’ calculations for accuracy and conformance to codes, specifications, design criteria, and good engineering practice.
  • Determine construction quantities and provide construction cost estimates.
  • Delegate work to designers according to their technical skills and experience, then follow up to support efficient progress and quality.
  • Consult with design leaders from other disciplines and follow up to support efficient progress and quality.
  • Confer with clients to determine scopes of work and interact with clients on technical matters.
  • Participate in planning training programs, continuing-education opportunities, and staff professional development.
  • Deliver presentations about Hargrove Engineers & Constructors services.
Desired Qualifications
  • Programming experience with Programmable Logic Controller, Human Machine Interface, and/or Distributed Control System equipment is optional.
  • Proficiency in 3D AutoCAD is preferred.
