Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Finance, Business, Economics, or a related field.
  • At least 9 years of inland marine and/or property underwriting experience.
  • Experience leading, mentoring, and providing guidance to underwriters.
  • Strong understanding of the insurance marketplace, including inland marine and property products, pricing, and competitive dynamics.
  • Ability to develop broker relationships that support new and renewal business opportunities.
  • Ability to select risks, price business, and structure deals using deductibles, coverage features, or reinsurance where appropriate.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States and must not require visa sponsorship now or in the future.
Responsibilities
  • Own and actively grow a profitable book of inland marine and property business across the Midwest Region.
  • Build and strengthen agency relationships to drive consistent, high-quality new business flow.
  • Evaluate risks, pricing, and coverage structures using experience and judgment.
  • Analyze submissions, loss history, exposure changes, and external data to make informed underwriting decisions.
  • Set pricing that reflects the risk using advanced loss analysis and judgment aligned with company strategy.
  • Structure deals using coverage features, deductibles, or reinsurance to meet client and company goals.
  • Interpret policies and contracts and provide guidance to brokers and internal partners, including claims.
  • Meet in person with distribution partners at least five times per month.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
Desired Qualifications
  • CPCU, ARM, or AU industry designation.
  • A master's degree.
  • Exposure to loss control or risk engineering.
