Requirements
  • Master’s degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program
  • Current New York State licensure and national certification (NCCPA or ANCC/AANP)
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Willingness to audit or ATLS certification
  • 1–2 years of relevant experience in surgical or inpatient care preferred
  • Strong clinical judgment, communication, and organizational skills
Responsibilities
  • Represent the Acute Care Surgery & Critical Care team in the Emergency Room as a provider
  • Provide back up for inpatient medical-surgical floor ACS Advanced Practice Provider providers
  • Perform ED consultations with comprehensive patient assessments, histories, and physical examinations for the ACS&CC service line
  • Perform procedures and wound care as required in the ED
  • Deliver care to patients of the ACS&CC division that are “boarded” in the ED
  • Respond to Level 3 traumas and provide trauma consultations
  • Coordinate patient discharges and ensure follow-up care is arranged
  • Respond to Emergency Department ACS&CC consults and provide timely evaluations
  • Document all clinical encounters and procedures accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR)
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and team members
  • Effectively partner with other members of the ACS & CC team (surgeons, APP, residents, medical students)
  • Weekday or Weekend Shifts
  • Conduct one quality improvement project annually
  • Support the mission of education, research and quality
  • Contribute to care team meetings
