Requirements
  • Seven years of underwriting experience and two years in a supervisory role, or equivalent military experience in grade E4 or above.
  • A Bachelor's degree, or the stated degree equivalency of four years of job-related work experience or an Associate's degree and two years of job-related work experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of underwriting policies and procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, communication, presentation, and problem-solving skills.
  • A strong understanding of automated systems.
  • Efficient supervisory and motivational ability.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency.
Responsibilities
  • Implement and enforce underwriting policies and procedures covering technical risk analysis, risk selection standards, and pricing methodologies.
  • Audit, monitor, and analyze underwriting and policyholder service activities for risk acceptability and adherence to company service and quality standards.
  • Supervise, monitor, and direct policy issuance and policyholder service activities.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and quarterly reports as required.
  • Oversee servicing carrier operations, primarily underwriting and policy administration.
  • Manage and administer all aspects of the corporate risk management and insurance program for exposures within the assigned line of business.
  • Foster customer relations and resolve issues and problems with agents and prospective business partners.
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with agents, policyholders, coworkers, and others.
  • Manage relationships with reinsurers, including monitoring agreements, selecting and negotiating retentions, and addressing facultative needs.
  • Establish and maintain processing procedures to ensure compliance with plan rules and regulations.
  • Participate in formulating underwriting policies and procedures, preparing manual revisions and updates, and distributing updated information to company personnel for the assigned line of business.
  • Provide assistance to the director and other management on special projects.
Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge of the reinsurance market.
  • Ability to identify important insurance exposures and evaluate various alternatives for treating them.
  • Knowledge of presentation software.
  • A professional designation, certification, or association.
