Requirements
  • An active pharmacist license in the state where the store is located.
  • An active National Provider Identifier (NPI).
  • The candidate must not be on the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Excluded Parties List.
  • One to two years of experience as a pharmacist.
  • Regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.
  • Ability to complete required training within the designated timeframe.
  • Ability to concentrate on a task over a period of time and pivot quickly between tasks to meet patient and business needs.
  • Ability to confirm prescription information and label accuracy to ensure patient safety.
  • Ability to help people in a friendly manner and respond appropriately to patients’ reactions.

Responsibilities
  • Manage and improve patient health through safe and appropriate dispensing, counseling, and immunizing practices.
  • Oversee the pharmacy team during bench shifts by coaching and following up with pharmacy team members to strengthen pharmacy performance measures.
  • Support safe and accurate prescription fulfillment by following and directing the team to follow pharmacy workflow procedures and safety guardrails at every workstation.
  • Promote positive patient experiences through compassionate care, collaboration with the patient’s total healthcare team, and proactive resolution of insurance or medication issues.
  • Offer and deliver immunizations and identify, engage, and support Pharmacy Technicians in learning to immunize.
  • Manage pharmacy inventory according to inventory best practices, with particular attention to protecting cold chain products.
  • Conduct onboarding for new Technicians and Pharmacists at the store and district level, including CVS workflow training, and ensure trainees complete required training and licensure on time.
  • Ensure pharmacy operations comply with state Board of Pharmacy regulations and escalate issues or concerns to the Rx District Leader when needed.
  • Partner with the Store Manager to maintain a talent pipeline of cross-trained colleagues for pharmacy work and ensure timely completion of required licensure training.
  • Oversee Staff Pharmacists and District Support Pharmacists where applicable, manage performance through observation, feedback, and results validation, deliver annual performance reviews, and close performance gaps.
  • Remain flexible for scheduling and business needs, contribute to a safe and inclusive team dynamic, and write or delegate and oversee the pharmacy schedule.
  • Review business reporting for operational insights and develop action plans addressing workflow, service, patient care, and compliance gaps.
  • Establish a culture of safety, empowerment, and inclusion and build psychological safety by encouraging feedback and taking appropriate action.
  • Maintain relevant clinical and technical skills through required training and continuing medical education and expand knowledge to better support patients.
  • Support access to care and patient outcomes through pharmacist-delivered clinical care, including testing and prescribing services where permitted.
  • Comply with federal and state laws, regulations, professional standards, ethical principles, CVS Health policies, controlled-substance dispensing and recordkeeping requirements, patient privacy and security requirements, and workplace safety standards.
  • Lead by example and set a positive tone for the team.
  • Delegate tasks, empower team members, and foster a collaborative work environment.
  • Motivate and inspire team members to follow standards and achieve high performance.
  • Apply problem-solving skills to address challenges and find innovative solutions.

  • Completion of the CVS Pharmacy Manager Emerging Leader (PM-EL) program.

CVS opens first pharmacy-only location in Chicago, plans nearly 20 this year

CVS Health has opened its first pharmacy-only location in Chicago, part of plans to launch nearly 20 such sites across the US this year. The 3,000-square-foot store at 2628 West Pershing Road features a full-service pharmacy with selected over-the-counter products.
