Requirements
  • Strong technical background architecting ASIC, system-on-chip, or I/O subsystems involving PCIe, UCIe, CXL, and DMA engines.
  • Knowledge of I/O subsystem and DMA interactions with embedded processor subsystems using x86, RISC-V, or ARM, and with external host CPUs.
  • Good understanding of computer architecture, graphics architecture, machine learning, and large language models.
  • Experience architecting GPU, TPU, or xPU accelerator systems with optimized high-bandwidth memory hierarchies and frontend architectures for large-scale LLM training and inference, including dense and mixture-of-experts models with text, vision, and speech modalities.
  • Knowledge of KV-cache optimization, FlashAttention, and mixture-of-experts architectures.
  • Deep experience optimizing large-scale machine learning systems and GPU architectures.
  • Proficiency in microarchitecture, software, hardware, and performance-engineering principles and methods.
  • Knowledge of ARM processors and AXI interconnects.
  • A Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
  • At least 15 years of hands-on architecture experience authoring specifications.
Responsibilities
  • Drive AI/ML ASIC architecture integrating AI Storage with GPU, TPU, or xPU accelerators, focusing on I/O subsystems connected over UCIe, PCIe, or CXL.
  • Author architecture specifications for AI/ML xPU-based accelerators using AI Storage Solutions.
  • Define I/O subsystem and PCIe DMA architectures and their interactions with embedded processor subsystems, network-on-chip, memory controllers, and FPGA fabric.
  • Create flexible, modular I/O subsystem architectures deployable in chiplet, monolithic, or 3D form factors.
  • Work with customers and cross-functional teams to scope system-on-chip requirements, analyze performance, power, and area tradeoffs, and define architectural requirements meeting PPA and schedule targets.
  • Define system-on-chip subsystem and DMA hardware, software, and firmware interactions with embedded processing subsystems, device-side system-on-chip CPUs, and host CPUs.
  • Guide and assist pre-silicon design and verification and post-silicon validation during execution.
  • Improve AI/ML ASIC architecture performance through hardware and software co-optimization, post-silicon performance analysis, and influence on the strategic product roadmap.
  • Analyze and characterize large language model workloads and competing datacenter and AI solutions to identify product performance-improvement opportunities.
  • Drive frontend system architecture for AI Storage Solutions with GPU, TPU, NPU, or xPU to match or exceed next-generation HBM bandwidth.
  • Architect memory-efficient inference and training systems using pruning, quantization with MX format, continuous batching, chunked prefill, and speculative decoding.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders and machine-learning researchers to disseminate results and iterate rapidly.

  • Familiarity with UCIe, CXL, NVLink, or UAL microarchitecture and protocols.
  • Familiarity with high-speed networking technologies including InfiniBand and RDMA, and with NVLink.
  • Expertise in transformer architectures, attention mechanisms, and model-parallelism techniques.
  • Multidisciplinary experience with firmware and ASIC design.
  • Expertise in CUDA programming, GPU memory hierarchies, and hardware-specific optimizations.
  • A proven track record architecting distributed training systems at large scale.
  • Experience with NVMe storage systems, protocols, and NAND flash.

Micron Technology and SanDisk shares jumped 5% and 8% respectively on Friday, despite a strong US jobs report that briefly pushed Federal Reserve rate hike odds above 50%. The US economy added 162,000 jobs in August, nearly triple expectations, sending Treasury yields higher and pressuring broader markets. The memory chip makers outperformed as semiconductor shortages continued to drive prices higher. Susquehanna expects DRAM contract prices to rise over 50% this quarter, whilst NAND prices could climb about 60%. Dell's COO highlighted persistent supply constraints across DRAM and NAND chips during the company's earnings call. The rally contrasted with rate-sensitive sectors like gold miners, which fell 1.9%, underscoring unusual strength in memory stocks despite hawkish market repricing.

Sandisk revenue surges 371% on AI demand as Qualcomm faces handset market headwinds

Sandisk reported 371% year-over-year revenue growth in its recent quarter, driven by AI demand and a strategic shift to long-term customer agreements. The flash memory storage company posted a 78% operating margin for the quarter ended 3 July 2026. In contrast, Qualcomm is experiencing gradual revenue decline despite its strong position in wireless communication technologies. The company recorded a 17% operating margin for the quarter ended 28 June 2026. Sandisk's transformation over the past 18 months moved it away from quarterly price negotiations towards long-term contracts, reducing business cyclicality whilst improving revenue visibility. Qualcomm is transitioning to serve the data centre market, where its wireless connectivity expertise could drive future growth and potentially reverse its current revenue trend.

SanDisk and Kioxia commit $31B to NAND expansion backed by $91B in contracted demand

SanDisk and Japanese partner Kioxia announced plans to invest over $31 billion in Japan over six years to expand NAND flash capacity for AI applications. The investment includes roughly $11.3 billion for a new facility at Kioxia's Kitakami plant to produce tenth-generation BiCS Flash. SanDisk shares closed at $1,484.98 on Friday, up 526% year to date. The company has signed new business model agreements with eight data centre and edge customers, with a weighted average duration of over four years. CEO David Goeckeler said revenue visibility stretched from three months a year ago to over four years. The backlog includes $91.1 billion in remaining performance obligations, backed by $16.5 billion in customer financial guarantees. Fiscal fourth-quarter revenue reached $8.96 billion, up 372% year over year.

SanDisk lays off dozens in Israel R&D centres despite 2,809% stock surge and $8.96B revenue

SanDisk has laid off dozens of R&D employees at its Israeli development centres in Kfar Saba, Tefen, and Omer, according to reports. The sites employ approximately 700 people. The cuts come as SanDisk experiences exceptional growth, with shares up 2,809% over the past year. The flash-memory maker reported fiscal Q4 revenue of $8.96 billion, up 372% year-over-year, whilst EPS of $38.82 exceeded Wall Street's $33.28 estimate. Data centre revenue more than doubled from the prior quarter to $2.98 billion. SanDisk expects up to $10.8 billion in revenue this quarter and is targeting roughly 80% gross margins through fiscal 2030. The layoffs appear part of a cost-efficiency initiative, as GAAP operating expenses fell 1% from the prior quarter to $545 million.

SanDisk drops 35% from June peak despite 372% revenue surge and ongoing chip shortage

SanDisk stock has fallen approximately 35% from its late June peak, despite remaining the best-performing S&P 500 component in 2026. The memory chip maker has benefited from a significant shortage driven by AI data centre demand. The company's most recent quarter saw revenue surge 51% quarter-over-quarter and 372% year-over-year. Two-thirds of this growth came from higher prices, with the remainder from increased production. SanDisk produces NAND memory chips, a commoditised market where current supply constraints have driven prices sharply higher. Input costs have remained stable whilst selling prices have soared. The shortage is expected to persist, as building new production facilities takes years and AI hyperscalers show no signs of reducing demand. New capacity may be immediately absorbed by these large purchasers.
