The role of the Senior Manager, Corporate Communications & Citizenship is to drive a comprehensive national media and reputation-building strategy that will enhance Samsung’s position as a leading and trusted brand in Canada with a best in class innovation agenda. The Senior Manager is responsible for a portfolio of communications initiatives to increase the profile and positive sentiment towards our brand, products and solutions, including communications strategy and planning, corporate reputation profiling building, press and consumer engagement, product and business announcements, media monitoring, coverage tracking and measurement.
The Senior Manager, Corporate Communications also leads Internal Communications at Samsung, helping build advocates out of employees and drive meaningful engagements with them through activities like quarterly Town Halls, executive communications and newsletters, and additional proactive and reactive communications from various lines of business and department leads.
In addition, the Senior Manager, Corporate Communications is also responsible for overseeing SECA’s corporate citizenship platforms, including global and local education programming (Solve for Tomorrow), corporate volunteerism initiatives, and Samsung’s employee donation-matching programs. The Manager will lead relationships with key partners and stakeholders. The Manager is also a key stakeholder in mapping out SECA’s sustainability strategy, leveraging global and local initiatives to build relevance with consumers.
Reporting to the Senior Director, Corporate Marketing and Communications, this role works closely with the SECA leadership team, HR, legal, corporate marketing SMEs, divisional brand teams, retail, and dotcom to integrate internal and external communications strategies, aligned to broader Samsung marketing and business goals.
The role also oversees PR agency relationships, and is heavily aligned with U.S and Global corporate citizenship and communications teams, to deliver best in class strategy and programming.
In this role, the Senior Manager, Corporate Communications, serves as a trusted advisor – helping educate, execute, and elevate core communications work and strategies across the organization.
Role and Responsibilities
Public Relations & Corporate Communications:
- Develop and implement strategic communications strategies in collaboration with marketing teams across Mobile, Consumer Electronics, Networks, Corporate and Enterprise businesses.
- Ensure PR plans and data-driven, anchored in industry and consumer trends, to drive positive word-of-mouth and media coverage for all lines of business and brand.
- Work closely with digital marketing teams and global PR teams across divisions to identify key media and influencer targets, and measurable strategies for a robust product seeding and technology review program.
- Build strategies to grow and protect Samsung Canada’s reputation and overall industry and consumer sentiment with strong communications insights and plans.
- Work collaboratively as an advisor and partner on opportunities related to sponsorship, national partnerships, and corporate philanthropy – to generate strong media coverage and positive sentiment.
- Manage and work closely with PR agency to ensure campaigns are executed on time, on budget and in adherence to brand guidelines.
- Oversee the effectiveness of marketing tools to analyze and report on all campaign KPIs related to PR. This includes tools leveraged by agency partners or tools adopted by Samsung internally in collaboration with US and/or global insights teams.
- Provide strategic counsel and serve as trusted corporate communications expert to Director and Senior Leadership team.
- Support leadership and risk management team in providing issues management, key messaging and crisis communications for the organization.
Internal Communications & Employee Engagement:
- Lead corporate internal communications programs and initiatives including but not limited to internal executive communications, employee newsletters, Town Halls and employee meetings, change management, employee giving/volunteerism and key internal stakeholder activities.
- Develop key internal messages and implement strategic internal communication plans that support key organizational priorities and internal stakeholder initiatives.
- Work collaboratively with HR to implement joint employee engagement plans.
- Review and strengthen cross-functional / Shared Services communications as required.
- Write and edit key executive communications, including key messages, speeches, and organizational announcements.
Corporate Citizenship & Cause Marketing
- Contribute to the development and execution of CSR based communications campaigns to drive awareness of Samsung’s CSR initiatives, celebrate SECA’s community partnerships and drive consumer PTO and external brand ranking (ex. IPSOS, Leger).
- Responsible for the development and implementation of national philanthropy and citizenship strategy, managing the execution of related marketing campaign initiatives and internal promotion to drive positive reputation with employees and consumers.
- Manage SECA’s Citizenship budget (~$1M), including expenses related to agencies, charitable partners, vendors, and corporate contributions and in-kind donations.
- Collaborate with Samsung NAHQ and HQ counterparts regarding SECA’s position within global organizational corporate social responsibility strategy, budgets and reporting.
Skills and Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business or related field preferred
Knowledge:
- Strong writing and editing skills with a keen eye for detail
- A natural communicator and collaborator, and self-motivated to take action and continue seeking results
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and juggle multiple projects at once
- Demonstrated ability to manage internal and external relationships.
- Self-motivated and able to work with limited supervision
- Knowledge in marketing program, agency and budget management
Experience:
- Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience.
- Experience working directly with journalists, editors, influencers and members of the media.
- Experience writing PR materials (e.g. press releases, pitch decks, story development.
- Experience leading consumer and media review programs.
- Experience managing complex and fast-moving issues.
- Proven ability to create and communicate a strategic plans, future-looking priorities, plan and execution to drive brand, engagement and corporate interests.
- Results-oriented in setting and pursuing aggressive goals, demonstrating a strong commitment to organizational success and seeking support across various stakeholders.
- Highly proficient in external/internal communication skills.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders; HQ, subsidiaries, Divisions, Executives, Peers and reports.
- Experience working managing high profile & confidential initiatives.
- Proven leadership in crafting digital and social media communications and strategies.
- Experience creating and executing CSR programs that build consumer and employee affinity.
- Familiarity with government relations and not-for-profit sectors: Health, Education, Environment.
- Exceptional verbal/written communication skills, with excellent facilitation and listening skills.
- Proven budget management experience: department, programs and consultants.
- Strong interpersonal skills. Highly professional demeanor and diplomatic skills.
