Staff – Software Engineering @ Invitae

As a Staff Software Engineer on the Ordering Platform team, you will be responsible for Invitae’s mission-critical ordering systems. Thousands of patients and providers use these systems daily to access Invitae’s testing capabilities and find answers to their most pressing health questions. Invitae’s business depends on these systems operating securely, reliably, and efficiently to ensure our patients get accurate results in a timely manner.

In this role, you will be instrumental in unlocking new opportunities for the business by delivering a robust ordering platform which makes it easy to compose Invitae’s core capabilities into dynamic, reusable workflows that can be tailored to the unique needs of our customers. This is a major company initiative which is critical for us to realize our mission of improving healthcare for billions of people.

What you will do:

Work on a high-visibility team and help deliver on Invitae’s Ordering Platform strategy
Collaborate with the product team and other stakeholders to identify and deliver better customer outcomes
Build clarity out of ambiguous and complex problems
Support the engineering team in achieving a high level of technical quality, reliability, and ease-of-use
Help level up the team through mentorship and training on design techniques and coding standards
Lead and manage processes to help the team do its best work and engage effectively with stakeholders
Participate in on-call rotations
Review code, troubleshoot production issues, and identify corrective actions to prevent them from recurring
Contribute to engineering-wide initiatives that help improve operational efficiency and reduce outages
Handle individual project priorities, deadlines, and work aligned with the team roadmap

What you bring:

8+ years of profession software development experience
Experience with modern tooling and best practices including, but not limited to, CI/CD, observability, containerization, distributed event/streaming platforms
Experience with running software applications in the cloud (AWS)
Experience with Kubernetes / Kafka / Docker / Terraform is a big plus
Experience with Python, TypeScript, Kotlin or equivalent languages
Ability to thrive in an ambiguous environment with a high degree of autonomy
Deep technical knowledge around web application architectures, protocols, APIs, and developer tools
Proven ability to design and deliver complex and maintainable software systems and features
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills especially across distributed teams
Desire to drive operational excellence by continuously improving monitoring, observability, and tooling

This salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience and location. USA National Pay Range

$164,800—$206,000 USD
