Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, Current Procedural Terminology coding, and International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision coding is required.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Medic, are required.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor the day-to-day operations of Patient Financial Counselors.
  • Use leadership skills to support staff, solve problems, and make decisions.
  • Lead and coordinate staff education.
  • Oversee the quality and quantity of workflow to ensure completion of work assignments.
  • Orient, train, and provide education for staff.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for the organization by providing guidance.
  • Facilitate resolution of problematic situations and inform appropriate leadership of actions taken.
  • Utilize computer programs including Epic, OnBase, RightFax, Trace, Experian, and OneSource.
  • Review productivity and quality reports.
  • Identify and address process-improvement opportunities and provide recommendations to improve procedures and enhance workflows.
  • Monitor work volume, efficiency standards, and other management concerns for areas of responsibility, and recommend changes when necessary.
  • Provide suggestions and input into short- and long-term departmental plans.
  • Work with leadership to establish and monitor personal and department goals and plans.
  • Recommend staffing changes, equipment and supply purchases, and overtime usage to leadership when these affect the budget.
  • Work closely with Patient Access, case management, Patient Accounting, and Information Technology to ensure understanding of processes and responsibilities.
  • May require periodic travel to other Bronson locations.
  • Perform work involving standing, walking, lifting light-weight objects, assisting with lifting and moving patients, and operating a computer or CRT for up to 40 percent of the time.
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous financial counseling experience is preferred.
  • Prior experience with Epic is helpful.
