Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology, or higher is required.
  • A minimum of seven years of experience in highway trailer engineering or an equivalent field is required.
  • The candidate must be skilled in engineering fields related to trailer design and advanced evaluation methods.
  • The candidate must be able to develop new designs, assemblies, and evaluation methods using new or established procedures.
  • The candidate must have the capabilities expected of a graduate engineer and the ability to manage engineering teams.
  • The candidate must be able to motivate teams to meet goals on schedule and manage multiple projects amid frequent changes in needs and priorities.
  • The candidate must be able to interact with representatives of other departments, companies, and customers and use product and market knowledge to provide accurate input and develop solutions to poorly defined or understood needs.
  • The candidate must be able to work in an office and plant environment and perform keyboarding, lifting, standing, bending, and walking.
Responsibilities
  • Manage engineers designing complex parts and assemblies using Catia, SolidWorks, or other tools as needed with minimal guidance from management.
  • Understand stress and thermal analysis on parts and complex assemblies using classical and numerical finite element analysis methods.
  • Monitor and report the results of small-scale and large-scale tests.
  • Travel to manufacturing plants to assist with implementing new designs and processes.
  • Work with vendors to obtain required materials.
  • Meet with customers and make presentations with minimal support from Sales personnel.
  • Supervise and mentor Design Engineers on large projects.
  • Write material specifications.
  • Use product and market knowledge to propose new methods, materials, and products.
  • Maintain technical competency.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
