Requirements
  • Strong working knowledge of flora and fauna of the Southeastern U.S.
  • Ability to independently identify and map Waters of the U.S.
  • Must have a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science or related field and one to 5+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Competency in stream and wetland delineations and associated mapping, along with a strong understanding of wetland and stream assessment methods
  • Good teamwork skills, self-motivation, and excellent communication skills
  • Strong organizational, time management, attention to detail, and analytical skills
  • Positive attitude and team-centered approach to problem-solving
  • Ability to travel to sites as needed
  • Proven track record of meeting deadlines
  • Must be able to work independently
Responsibilities
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and operation of mitigation banking projects.
  • Field biologist with a strong understanding of flora and fauna of the Southeastern U.S.
  • Jurisdictional determination of Waters of the U.S.
  • Functional, biological, and conditional assessment of Waters of the U.S., including but not limited to HGM and modified-HGM principles of assessment
  • GIS data management, including collecting and maintaining spatial data necessary for ecological assessment of existing and potential mitigation sites
  • Assist site coordinators and other staff with field work required for annual reporting on existing mitigation banks
  • Assist site coordinators and other staff with field work required for general maintenance
  • Produce maps and technical reports as needed for potential mitigation sites
  • Assist with federal and state agency inspections
  • Implement and enforce safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment and increase employee safety awareness
  • Other duties as assigned
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience permitting wetland and stream mitigation projects in multiple districts of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
  • Experience permitting threatened and endangered species mitigation projects in multiple regions of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
  • Proficient in ArcGIS and Google Earth, preferably also including working knowledge of AutoCAD
  • Ability to obtain an Unmanned Aircraft Vehicle license
