Requirements
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience servicing corporate retirement plans.
  • A bachelor's degree is strongly preferred, along with at least one recognized financial or benefits industry designation.
  • FINRA Series 65 or 66 is preferred, or the ability to achieve it within four months of hire.
  • An AIF designation is preferred, or the ability to achieve it within six months of hire.
  • A professional history showing increasing levels of responsibility directly related to the duties.
  • Familiarity with the Employee Health & Benefits marketplace, including industry-specific business needs, educational and professional development associations, carriers, and other broker agencies.
  • Basic financial analysis knowledge and technical understanding of investment and group retirement plans, as well as federal and state legislation.
  • Ability to make independent decisions and exercise good judgment when addressing and servicing client needs.
  • Ability to provide non-technical explanations of technical matters and summarize and present information clearly, concisely, and accurately in written and verbal formats.
  • A valid unrestricted Life and Disability License in California, including fulfillment of continuing education requirements.
  • A valid California driver's license and dependable transportation.
  • Knowledge of general office personal computing and the ability and willingness to learn and use required computer programs, including Microsoft Windows 7, Microsoft Office 2010, and financial industry software.
  • Ability to use a computer keyboard and sit in a stationary position for extended periods, and use office equipment such as fax machines, copy machines, and telephones.
Responsibilities
  • Oversee ongoing client service activities and meet with clients throughout the year to ensure high service levels and fulfillment of client expectations.
  • Meet business retention goals and participate in developing new business with existing clients by providing employee education and increasing contributions.
  • Develop strong business relationships and client trust.
  • Ensure client compliance with annual plan testing and Form 5500 filing procedures, as applicable.
  • Advise the Client Service Team in resolving routine client concerns, investigate recurring and non-routine client and carrier concerns, and bring them to successful resolution.
  • Facilitate and deliver employee education sessions for open enrollment and ongoing employee engagement throughout the year.
  • Troubleshoot client service requests and issues.
  • Assist with client-related mergers and acquisitions activity.
  • Manage the marketing of existing plans, including coordinating coverage placement through instructions provided to the Client Service Team.
  • Provide direction to the Client Service Team in preparing employee communication materials.
  • Advise, inform, and involve the Client Sales Executive as required during the marketing process.
  • Prepare and present renewal outcomes to clients in a timely manner.
  • Recommend improvements based on changing employee benefit legislation, suggest strategies to address client concerns, and provide resolutions for discrepancies, errors, or inconsistencies.
  • Manage the transition timeline for converting to a new provider.
  • Conduct employee meetings to communicate benefit options as needed.
  • Review contracts, plan documents, Summary Plan Descriptions, and other legal documents for accuracy, and ensure materials are sent to clients promptly.
  • Act as a leader for Client Service Team members by fostering trust, open communication, cohesive teamwork, problem solving, collaboration, and adherence to client requirements, procedures, processes, quality standards, techniques, and tools.
  • Provide business information to support the team's professional development.
  • Ensure deliverables satisfy client requirements, cost, and schedule.
  • Work with division, service, and operations leaders to obtain resources, address project impediments, and escalate unresolved issues.
  • Review quarterly production and activity reports.
  • Maintain accurate account files documenting issues and maintain the Agency Management System.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and clients.
  • Travel to client sites, usually within driving distance and occasionally involving two- to five-night out-of-town stays.
  • Work extended hours of 10 to 12 hours per day on occasion for networking and industry functions.
