BAE Systems wins U.S. Army M776 cannon contract, expands Kentucky production

BAE Systems has secured a major contract to produce M776 cannons for the US Army, establishing second-source production at its Kentucky facility. The undisclosed contract value expands the company's role in supplying critical artillery systems to US forces. BAE Systems shares currently trade at £22.315, approximately 3% below the analyst target of £22.98. The stock has delivered 27.2% returns year-to-date and 30.5% over 12 months, though it has declined 3.3% in the past month. The designation as a second source for the artillery component could strengthen BAE Systems' US production footprint and influence future contract flow. Investors will watch how production scales at the Kentucky site and whether follow-on orders materialise.

BAE Systems unveils Ascent spacecraft for space superiority and lunar exploration missions

BAE Systems has introduced Ascent, a new spacecraft in its Elevation product line designed for space superiority and exploration missions. The platform features advanced manoeuvrability, including refuelling and high-thrust propulsion capabilities, whilst carrying multiple rideshare payloads. Ascent supports operations from low Earth orbit to beyond geostationary orbit, with capabilities to transport and deploy small satellites and cargo to the moon. The spacecraft can function as a "space tug" to move cargo across orbits and host instruments in lunar and other orbital environments. The platform joins BAE Systems' existing Summit and Trek spacecraft variants. The company plans to deliver its first pathfinder Ascent spacecraft by 2027, leveraging seven decades of space systems expertise to meet growing demand in the space defence industry.
