Requirements
  • A high school diploma/GED or 10 years of work experience is required.
  • One additional year of training and one year of relevant orthopedic experience are required.
  • Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification is required within 90 days of employment; other resuscitation certifications may be required depending on the department.
  • The role requires constant standing and walking; frequent communication, hearing, lifting or carrying and pushing or pulling objects weighing 0–25 pounds, reaching, gripping, keyboard use and data entry, and near and far vision with color identification; occasional bending, stooping, crawling, kneeling, sitting, squatting, repetitive limb movements, spatial-relationship judgment, lifting or moving objects weighing 25–50 pounds, lifting or moving patients, odor detection, and driving.
Responsibilities
  • Apply and remove splints and casts.
  • Repair, maintain, and adjust casting material during the treatment regimen as necessary for patient safety and comfort.
  • Assess cast material needs and application techniques for patients.
  • Measure and fit patients for hinged braces, order appliances, and document measurements and results.
  • Provide patient and family education regarding cast and splint application, care, and removal.
  • Document events in the patient's medical record, including blood pressures, while respecting and maintaining medical-record confidentiality.
  • Escort orthopedic patients within the clinic when necessary.
  • Participate in telephone screening of cast patients for cast education and referral to the nurse, physician, or appointment desk.
  • Assist with surgical procedures performed in the procedure room.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Float between all five clinics during the week as needed.
  • Work a full-time day-shift schedule of 32 hours per week, with no weekends and variable days of the week.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Experience with pediatric patients is a plus.
