Requirements
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required within 90 days of hire.
  • One year of patient care assistant experience and/or clerical experience is required.
  • The employee must be able to read and write legibly in English.
  • The employee must be able to lift, move, and position patients of all weights with varying amounts of assistance on a regular and recurring basis.
  • The employee must be able to problem-solve rapidly and accurately, maintain composure and communicate effectively during stressful situations, and multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
  • Assist with directing the flow of activities within the nursing unit.
  • Maintain optimal communication between members of the health care team and assist with providing direct patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse.
  • Perform direct patient care as assigned within the scope of job responsibilities.
  • Report pertinent observations and concerns directly to the nurse.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living.
  • Document in the Electronic Medical Record according to policy.
  • Perform clerical skills using computers, copiers, fax machines, telephones, and related equipment.
  • Maintain patient privacy, dignity, and confidentiality.
  • Demonstrate competency in technical skills and complete the required skills checklist.
  • Answer call bells according to hospital standards.
  • Use equipment appropriately.
Desired Qualifications
  • Post-high-school business, secretarial, or computer training.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Hold a Notary Public commission for the State of West Virginia or obtain it within six months of hire and keep it current.
  • Establish good rapport with staff and physicians.
  • Communicate effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Make decisions based on the best interests of the patient, unit, and hospital.
  • Support hospital and unit initiatives.
