Requirements
  • A high school diploma, General Educational Development credential, or equivalent working knowledge is required.
  • Knowledge normally obtained through a medical terminology course is required; candidates without prior coursework must complete the course within the first six months of hire.
  • Excellent organizational skills and effective human relations and communication skills are required.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology, computer literacy, and keyboarding skills are required.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare patients for examinations and treatment by taking and recording vital signs, symptoms, chief complaints, pain scores, and other necessary measurements, and report relevant changes in patient condition to the clinician.
  • Assist providers with examinations and minor in-office procedures, act as a chaperone as needed, use universal blood and body fluid precautions and personal protective equipment, and prioritize patient flow.
  • Act as a resource to clinicians to support optimal patient care.
  • Provide clerical support for patient and client notifications and documentation, including medical records, laboratory results, authorizations, X-rays, hospital records, and previous care; provide accurate billing information for patient encounters.
  • Schedule and reschedule patients, confirm upcoming appointments, and inform patients of physician orders or special instructions before appointments or procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and functional environment by cleaning and disinfecting equipment, examination rooms, and storage areas; disinfect equipment and instruments according to sterilization procedures, manufacturer recommendations, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration guidelines.
  • Perform basic equipment maintenance and coordinate repairs when needed.
  • Order supplies, stock patient-care areas, and monitor inventory, including medications, injectables, immunizations, expired items, and recalls.
  • Develop and maintain effective communication with internal and external customers and provide service-oriented support.
  • Perform all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, and applicable professional standards.
Desired Qualifications
  • Certified Nursing Assistant experience is preferred.
  • Additional related education and/or experience is preferred.
