Requirements
  • Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • 10+ years of relevant industrial experience in electrical engineering.
  • Knowledge and application of the current version of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
  • Knowledge of 15kV power system equipment and installation techniques both above and below ground.
  • Ability to size wire, conduit and overcurrent protection for both lighting and power applications.
  • Ability to perform design for electrical equipment and infrastructure including, but not limited to: voltage drop calculations, lighting, raceway designs, MCC and substation loading.
  • Ability to create accurate electrical installation documents from the information found on vendor equipment drawings.
  • Ability to develop equipment specifications for low and medium voltage equipment such as motor control centers, variable frequency drives, induction and synchronous motors, load center unit substations, etc.
  • Ability to produce a 15kV power system single line diagram and related drawings.
  • Ability to perform calculations for required short circuit and overcurrent protective device ratings.
  • Knowledge and application of company engineering design and CAD drafting standards.
  • Knowledge of programmable Logic controllers (PLC), Human Machine Interface (HMI), and/or Distributed Control System (DCS) equipment, Protection Relays (SEL, GE).
  • Physical ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.
Responsibilities
  • Design, maintain, and optimize medium and low-voltage power distribution systems tailored to chemical processing operations.
  • Develop, Review, and Approve all electrical deliverables.
  • Specify electrical infrastructure including transformers, switchgear, MCCs, VFDs, UPS systems, and related equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE, and OSHA standards, as well as chemical industry-specific safety protocols.
  • Develop and maintain electrical documentation including single-line diagrams, schematics, and equipment specifications.
  • Contribute to establishing and revising electrical area classifications.
  • Ensure equipment meets the requirements of the hazardous area designation.
  • Validating project and construction estimates at the beginning of a project and then tracking changes as the project progresses.
  • Initiating timely change notices when scope change affects schedule, deliverables or cost.
  • Utilizing and following department design and drafting standards.
  • Reviewing and verifying calculations made by other engineers to ensure accuracy, conformance to codes, specifications, design criteria and conformance to good engineering practice.
  • Assisting the engineering designers in resolving routine layout and detailing problems.
