What believers are saying

  • Genus said 14 July 2026 FY26 results should beat consensus and cut leverage.
  • The Chinese porcine joint venture delivered about £111 million cash in FY26.
  • ABS posted double-digit profit growth in FY26, helped by the Value Acceleration Programme.

What critics are saying

  • North American PIC volumes weakened in FY26 from customer disease challenges.
  • Genus still depends on further approvals before selling PRRS-resistant pigs in Canada.
  • If EU and U.S. adoption stalls, PRRS-resistant pigs stay a stranded platform.

What makes Genus unique

  • PIC’s PRRS-resistant pigs won Canada approval on 23 January 2026.
  • Genus monetizes elite genetics through recurring royalties, not commodity livestock sales.
  • ABS and PIC combine bovine and porcine genetics across 100-plus countries.

Canada approves PRRSV-resistant pigs for food and feed to cut farm losses and antibiotic use

Canada has approved genetically engineered pigs resistant to porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome viruses for use in food and feed. Health Canada and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency completed independent safety assessments following applications from Genus PLC and PIC Canada, concluding the pigs are as safe and nutritious as conventional pork. The approval addresses PRRSV, one of the most devastating virus classes affecting farmed pigs, which causes severe symptoms including breathing problems, fever and stillborn piglets. There are currently no effective treatments available. Genus PLC's PRRSV-resistant pigs are already approved in the US, Brazil, Colombia and the Dominican Republic. However, the company will not sell these pigs in Canada until receiving regulatory authorisation in other key markets. Canada's swine industry generated over $6.3 billion in farm cash receipts in 2024.

Genus Plc Preliminary Results For The Year Ended 30 June 2023

SOLID PERFORMANCE AND GOOD STRATEGIC PROGRESSWEBCAST AVAILABLE AT 7:01AM GMT, 2.01 ESTLONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Genus (LSE:GNS), a leading global animal genetics company, today announces its preliminary results for the year ended 30 June 2023. The full report has been made available on the investors section of the Genus plc website. The Company will discuss its corporate, operational and financial highlights in a pre-recorded webcast at 7:01 AM GMT, 2.01 EST.Commenting on the performance and outlook, Jorgen Kokke, Chief Executive Officer, said:“The Group achieved a strong operational performance despite ongoing challenging market conditions for producers in several important markets. Revenues grew in all regions and both PIC and ABS delivered profit growth. This also enabled us to deliver record adjusted EBITDA and good cashflow for the Group. Growth in R&D investments, primarily due to the strategically important gene editing work and expansion of PIC’s elite farms, as well as higher interest costs, resulted in adjusted profit before tax consistent with the prior year.“PIC’s performance was particularly impressive, achieving a record adjusted operating profit for the year
