Requirements
  • A current active New York license as a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse is required.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification for a health care provider is required.
  • At least one year of nursing experience is required.
  • Experience with both general medical and psychiatric populations is required.
  • Experience administering Naltrexone and Buprenorphine injections is required.
  • Experience working in a behavioral health setting is required.
Responsibilities
  • Complete client assessments and documentation related to medical and health management.
  • Administer Naltrexone and Buprenorphine injections and make appropriate adjustments as required.
  • Monitor withdrawal symptoms, medication response, vital signs, and client symptoms, and communicate findings and concerns to the physician, advanced practitioner, and treatment team.
  • Document all interventions, observations, activities, actions, irregularities, and continuing needs accurately and promptly in the electronic health record and patient records.
  • Establish client care goals within treatment plans and educate clients about substance abuse, withdrawal, sobriety, and recovery.
  • Provide emotional support and maintain professional boundaries in a culturally sensitive manner.
  • Support ancillary staff in maintaining unit standards and rules.
  • Maintain quality of care by following therapeutic standards, nursing standards, organizational policies, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment and request assistance from health care support personnel when needed.
  • Follow infection-control policies, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled-substance regulations.
  • Maintain confidentiality of client and employee information under HIPAA requirements.
  • Manage nursing supply inventory by checking stock, anticipating needs, alerting the Program Manager, and using equipment and supplies appropriately.
  • Perform waived testing and quality controls for waived testing according to policy and protocol.
  • Communicate with health care teams, respond to requests, build rapport, and participate in team problem-solving.
  • Identify signs and symptoms of emerging medical or psychiatric complications and intervene as necessary to promote client safety and well-being.
  • Communicate with clients’ families when appropriate and provide education and support within HIPAA guidelines.
  • Report to the Program Manager and nursing leadership regarding client care and outpatient-location operations.
  • Prepare for and actively participate in daily rounds.
  • Adapt to program changes while maintaining location rules and client and staff safety.
  • Assist in crisis situations while maintaining client and staff safety.
Desired Qualifications
  • An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing is preferred.
