Requirements
  • Provide comprehensive assessment, treatment, and education to Emergency Medicine patients in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, accreditation standards, and organizational policies.
  • Exercise independent professional judgment when rendering care and maintain professional, competent, and ethical standards of care.
  • Complete patient documentation, including assessments, treatment plans, interventions, ancillary services, and other patient interactions, in the electronic medical record within 48 hours of service.
  • Cooperate with patient-chart audits and required coding, documentation, compliance, educational, and training activities.
  • Attend and provide input in quality improvement and quality assurance projects, including activities related to patient satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, support personnel, and administration regarding patient care and practice operations.
  • Protect patient rights and comply with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act regulations and confidentiality requirements.
  • Submit credentialing and re-credentialing information to Medical Staff Services within 20 days of receiving the application.
  • Adhere to infection control, safety, universal precautions, patient confidentiality, security, and other organizational policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
  • Interview patients and family members to obtain appropriate medical histories and assess physical, developmental, and behavioral status.
  • Examine patients, perform systems reviews as indicated, complete physical assessments, and identify medical and health issues and needs.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans that may include diagnostic tests, pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical interventions, medical and surgical services, and patient education.
  • Review clinical data from laboratory results, X-rays, scans, and pathology reports.
  • Collaborate with the Medical Director to determine coverage schedules and arrange practice coverage before planned absences.
  • Provide scheduled patient contact hours in Emergency Department and Urgent Care locations.
  • Arrange clinical coverage by another Elliot Emergency Medicine Services Advanced Care Provider for unplanned absences.
  • Participate in quality management activities that comply with applicable accreditation requirements and Medical Staff bylaws.
  • Use patient-satisfaction information to maintain performance within usual bounds compared with specialty colleagues.
  • Work with staff to maintain efficient practice operations and collaborate with nursing, support personnel, and administration.
  • Participate in staff meetings and cooperate with practitioners and coworkers to achieve departmental objectives.
  • Report concerns and problems to the supervisor as they arise.
  • Participate in developing, implementing, and evaluating EHS education programs, support, and services.
  • Attend required corporate and hospital meetings and education opportunities.
  • Participate in policies, procedures, standards of care, standards of practice, and infection-control standards.
  • Ensure access, educational, age-specific, medical-surveillance, and other processes meet patient needs.
  • Provide services at assigned locations as directed by the Medical Director and Chief Medical Officer.
