Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
  • 10–15+ years of progressive commercial real estate lending experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years of leadership experience managing commercial lending teams.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute the commercial real estate West Coast team and lending strategy to achieve growth, profitability, and portfolio quality objectives.
  • Establish annual loan production goals, portfolio targets, and market expansion initiatives.
  • Monitor industry trends, economic conditions, and competitive dynamics to identify opportunities and risks.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership on strategic planning and capital allocation.
  • Lead origination efforts for new commercial real estate lending opportunities.
  • Cultivate relationships with developers, investors, brokers, attorneys, certified public accountants, and other referral sources.
  • Expand market share through proactive calling efforts and community engagement.
  • Structure complex lending solutions that meet customer needs while adhering to credit standards.
  • Oversee the underwriting, approval, and monitoring of commercial real estate loans.
  • Ensure the portfolio maintains strong credit quality through ongoing risk assessment and portfolio reviews.
  • Partner with Credit Administration to evaluate complex credit requests and loan structures.
  • Manage concentrations, criticized assets, renewals, modifications, and problem loan strategies.
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of commercial real estate lenders and support staff.
  • Set performance expectations and provide coaching to maximize production and portfolio quality.
  • Foster a collaborative, customer-focused, and results-oriented culture.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and succession planning.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, internal credit policies, and lending procedures.
  • Participate in regulatory examinations, internal audits, and loan reviews.
  • Maintain strong governance around documentation, covenant monitoring, and exception tracking.
  • Recommend policy enhancements based on changing market conditions.
  • Manage profitability through pricing discipline, loan mix, deposit generation, and cross-selling opportunities.
  • Monitor production pipelines, portfolio performance, and key financial metrics.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for executive management and the Board of Directors.
  • Contribute to budget development and expense management.

  • An MBA or advanced financial designation.
  • Experience with income-producing properties, multifamily, industrial, retail, office, and mixed-use projects, as well as construction lending.
  • Familiarity with portfolio management systems and commercial loan origination platforms.
  • A strong network within the local commercial real estate community.
  • Experience presenting to executive leadership, loan committees, and boards.

Customers Bank names Stephen Wyremski as chief operating officer

Customers Bank has appointed Stephen Wyremski as chief operating officer, effective 26 January. The $24 billion bank subsidiary of Customers Bancorp announced that Wyremski brings over 20 years of financial and operational leadership experience to the role. Wyremski joined Customers Bank in 2024 as a strategic adviser, where he helped accelerate finance and data modernisation initiatives. He previously served as chief financial officer of a New York-based commercial bank with over $100 billion in assets and spent nearly a decade at KPMG in its banking audit practice. Wyremski holds a bachelor's degree in accounting and finance from Boston College and has been a licensed certified public accountant for nearly two decades.

Customers Bancorp beats Q4 revenue estimates with 22.5% growth to $236.9M

Customers Bancorp reported fourth-quarter revenue of $236.9 million, exceeding analyst estimates of $231.3 million and representing 22.5% year-on-year growth. The regional banking company's non-GAAP earnings of $2.06 per share also beat consensus estimates by 0.8%. Net interest income reached $204.4 million, surpassing expectations of $200.1 million with 21.8% year-on-year growth. The net interest margin came in at 3.4%, meeting analyst forecasts. However, the efficiency ratio of 49.5% missed estimates of 47.7%. Customers Bancorp, which operates with a branch-light digital banking strategy, has shown solid long-term performance with 13.9% annualised revenue growth over five years. Recent growth has moderated to 6.8% annualised over the past two years. The company's market capitalisation stands at $2.74 billion.
