Job Description

We are looking for a practical and commercially minded lawyer who is prepared to be hands-on and collaborative whilst working to help scale the business in line with our ambitious growth strategy. 

This is a 12 month fixed term contract covering parental leave. Ideally, you are able to start by early November at the latest, to allow for a thorough handover.

Success in this role is about being both proactive and reactive - dealing pragmatically and efficiently with issues as they arise and helping to put in place the processes and systems to put us on firm legal footing in a constantly changing external environment. The role would suit an autonomous individual looking for a broad in-house role (where no two days are the same!) in a fast-paced and exciting environment. 

The team is currently made up of two other lawyers, a Senior Legal Counsel and Director of Legal (returning from parental leave in Spring 2024), who reports directly to the Etsy Legal team. Following Etsy’s acquisition of Depop in 2021, you will also benefit from being part of Etsy’s Legal team. 

Responsibilities:

• Working closely with all teams in the business and developing relationships with key stakeholders and external advisors. 
• Acting as a key legal partner to various business teams such as marketing, engineering and product to support business growth, whilst advising on risk mitigation and legal compliance. 
• Contributing to review & improvement of legal team processes, templates and guidance to drive efficiencies.
• Preparing and negotiating a wide range of general commercial agreements including NDAs, talent agreements, supplier agreements and IT agreements.
• Advising and supporting the business on all ad hoc legal matters, including data protection, IP, litigation, consumer law, user safety and compliance. 
• Coordinating the business on legal matters relating to financing, due diligence and other compliance requests. 
• Helping to develop and execute short and long-term strategy for the Legal function, working with external legal advisors and Etsy counterparts as needed.

Qualifications

Requirements:

• 5+ years of post qualified experience in a private practice or in-house role.
• Qualified to practice law in England. 
• Prior technology experience is very desirable, as is experience working with high growth technology businesses, social media platforms or online marketplaces. 
• Attendance 1 day per week in the office (Farringdon Road, London), preferable.
