Requirements
  • A high school diploma, General Educational Development certificate, or equivalent working knowledge is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • The position requires good judgment, effective communication, and discretion when interacting with patients, staff, and the general public.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology and computer literacy are required.
  • The position requires knowledge of commonly used office software and keyboarding skills.

Responsibilities
  • Assist technologists and nurses by performing non-technical patient and procedure-related duties in accordance with department and facility policies and procedures.
  • Perform clerical, administrative, and customer-service support functions for an assigned patient-care area.
  • Greet patients, medical staff, and the public; answer incoming telephone calls; schedule appointments; enter orders; provide general information; collect data; and support resolution of customer problems.
  • Enter patient information into the computer and scan documents into the Picture Archiving and Communication System.
  • Maintain complete patient records, including admission, transfer, discharge information, progress notes, consent forms, charting forms, and patient education materials.
  • Support quality control and validation activities when assigned and facilitate requests for patient medical records.
  • Acquire and distribute digital patient records by digitizing, formatting, and uploading film-based or digital images into the Picture Archiving and Communication System.
  • Maintain accurate filing systems according to department protocols and procedures.
  • Fulfill requests for images and reports in system, hard-copy film, or compact-disc formats while following protocols for releasing confidential patient information.
  • Receive patients in applicable systems, confirm demographics and insurance information, perform insurance verification, calculate and collect applicable copays or deductibles, total charges, and enter pending discharges.
  • Coordinate appointments for procedures and treatments, process patient discharges, and coordinate transportation to care centers and residential homes as requested.
  • Print physician schedules, super-bills, labels, and other forms; pull and file patient charts; prepare new patient charts; print and file transcription notes; reconcile charge tickets; identify incomplete tickets, missing charge codes, or missing diagnoses; and forward completed billing packages.
  • Assist technologists and nurses with pre- and post-procedure room preparation, obtain supplies, assist patients, stock procedure rooms, set up sterile trays when applicable, escort patients, take vital signs and patient history, assist with treatment when required, and transport patients.
  • Maintain office, dietary, and medical supply levels; complete requisition forms; and reconcile supply orders upon delivery.
  • Perform all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, and applicable professional standards.
  • Provide customers with a consistent service experience while following the organization's stated core and leader behaviors.
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior experience as a transporter, Emergency Medical Technician, and/or nursing assistant is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
  • Previous experience working with electronic medical records and insurance is preferred.
  • Knowledge of filing and retrieval systems is preferred.
