Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Arts degree in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, Area Studies, Race and Ethnicity, Cultural Studies, or a similar field.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in publishing and/or academia.
  • Operational and transactional experience within an academic or intellectual enterprise.
  • Experience with budget management and communications via print, web, and social media.
  • Knowledge of editorial content management systems, preferably ScholarOne; Google Suite; Microsoft Suite; WordPress or similar; Canva; Mailchimp; Zoom/webinar platforms; and social media platforms.
  • Excellent time management and attention to detail.
Responsibilities
  • Assist the Meridians Editor and the Administrative Manager in publishing the journal.
  • Coordinate workflow and communication between contributors, the editor, guest editors, the editorial board, and the publisher.
  • Coordinate submissions and publication processes, including intake, peer reviewer assignments, dispositions, ScholarOne auditing, issue content development and management, copy-editing, proofreading, fact-checking, and copyright agreements.
  • Respond to inquiries and provide general information to publishers, the editorial board, guest editors, reviewers, and contributors.
  • Support the Meridians Editor and Administrative Manager in sustaining double-anonymized peer review, timely dispositions, issue content development, issue marketing and branding, and communication with the publisher.
  • Disseminate event notices across multiple platforms and serve as webmaster for the Meridians website.
  • Oversee publicity and recruitment materials, including graphic design of event flyers and posters.
  • Oversee production, copyediting, and proofreading of the monthly Meridians newsletter and social media content.
  • Partner with campus departments and offices on intercampus and alumnae communications.
  • Coordinate space use, including scheduling, general maintenance, catering, event setup, and external booking requests through 25Live.
  • Hire, train, and supervise student workers as needed, facilitate weekly student intern meetings, maintain the shared calendar, and take notes of meeting items presented and decided.
  • Provide coordination and administrative support for Meridians programs, events, and workshops.
  • Coordinate with other departments and campus programs and assist with college-wide events as necessary.
  • Provide executive assistant support to the Editor, including arranging meetings, coordinating calendars and campus space, taking meeting minutes, supporting photocopying, printing, and document publication, and providing technical support for supplies, equipment, event setup, and online programming.
  • Complete projects supporting the journal’s overall direction and integration with the college.
  • Perform other duties assigned by management.
Desired Qualifications
  • A minimum of two years working with undergraduates and faculty to support their learning, teaching, and/or research.
  • A Master of Arts, Master of Fine Arts, or pursuing Ph.D. in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, Area Studies, Race and Ethnicity, Cultural Studies, or a similar field.
  • Knowledge of languages beyond English.
  • Knowledge of Google Suite, Microsoft Suite, ScholarOne CMS or equivalent, WordPress, Mailchimp, and Canva.
