Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree, preferably in financial planning, finance, wealth management, math, or a related field; an additional two years of experience as a licensed Investment or Trust Representative or in a related position may be considered instead of the degree.
  • Must have a life insurance license or obtain one within two months of hire.
  • Must be fully licensed in Investments through SIE/6/63/65 or SIE/7/66, or hold the ATFA designation.
  • Must have at least two years of experience as an Insurance, Investment, or Trust Representative or in a similar position.
  • Must be comfortable acting in an advisory capacity, having informed conversations with members about financial planning topics, and providing holistic guidance.
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must demonstrate critical thinking, problem-solving, and good judgment.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must possess an aptitude for meeting people and developing member confidence, member and coworker respect, and trust in the Credit Union.
  • Must be able to adapt quickly to changes in daily work based on immediate needs.
  • Must have strong multitasking and organizational skills.
  • Must maintain strict confidentiality of member account information.
  • Must work additional hours when necessary to execute responsibilities.
  • Must complete training, modules, and education assigned by management.
  • Must speak English fluently.
  • Must adhere to the work schedule and attendance policy established by the manager.
  • Travel for training may be required; must possess a vehicle and valid driver's license.
Responsibilities
  • Help members understand, obtain, and maintain financial advisory solutions that meet their financial goals, objectives, and needs.
  • Interact with members in an advisory capacity to identify suitable financial products for their overall financial plans.
  • Develop ongoing member relationships through frequent communication and education across multiple delivery channels, ensuring recommended solutions remain suitable as financial needs change.
  • Coordinate and engage other specialists for complex scenarios to ensure member needs are addressed holistically.
  • Provide support and guidance to newer or less experienced Financial Advisory Services Specialists.
  • Train member-facing employees on financial advisory services to facilitate quality referrals.
  • Use SECU technology, marketing campaigns, lead platforms, referrals, and branch visits to achieve activity levels aligned with management's productivity benchmarks.
  • Work independently to achieve expected activity productivity levels with limited guidance and oversight.
  • Communicate frequently with management about activities and results within the assigned area.
  • Identify process improvements for delivering financial advisory services and relay suggestions to management.
  • Navigate SECU operational systems, life insurance software, NetX 360, Envestnet, and future systems.
  • Comply with Credit Union policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Protect member information and access member accounts only for business purposes.
  • Follow security and control procedures.
  • Greet and assist members courteously, professionally, and promptly through in-person, telephone, and digital channels.
  • Work with management to strengthen proficiency in member service delivery.
  • Verify member identification and comply with SECU's Member Information Security Procedure.
  • Assist in other operational areas as needed.
  • Interact professionally with other departments to facilitate member requests.
  • Maintain acceptable performance based on key performance indicators and standards established by management.
  • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Maintain acceptable soft-skill and call-quality standards.
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of the CXone platform and remain available in member-facing skill sets as determined by management.
  • Maintain current and comprehensive knowledge of credit union products and services and provide quality referrals.
  • Complete required quarterly training, continuing education, and other training assigned by management.
Desired Qualifications
  • Certified Financial Planner™ or similar designation.
  • Experience in the credit union or financial services industry.

SECU partnership helps South Piedmont students stay on track and build financial confidence. Balancing classes, work, and finances is one of the biggest challenges college students face. Thanks to a partnership between South Piedmont Community College and State Employees' Credit Union (SECU), South Piedmont Community College is helping students ease that burden through scholarships, financial education, and resources designed to support success both in college and beyond. Through SECU's support, South Piedmont students have access to scholarships that help cover educational costs and reduce financial stress. The People Helping People Scholarship supports students pursuing associate degrees, while the Bridge to Career Scholarship assists students working toward certificates and workforce credentials. These scholarships help students stay enrolled, focus on their coursework, and move closer to their career goals. "SECU's support truly makes a difference for our students," said Coordinator of Financial Aid Programs Tammi Smith. "Through scholarships like People Helping People and Bridge to Career, students are able to focus on their education instead of worrying about financial obstacles. Through the SECU Foundation's Mission Development Grant Program, MHCDC will have the opportunity to strengthen internal capacity, expand its reach, and continue building sustainable pathways toward housing stability and economic empowerment. The SECU Foundation's Mission Development Grant Program is designed to provide capacity building assistance to organizations committed to serving North Carolina communities. The grant supports institutional assessments, leadership coaching, and strategic development in key areas essential for growth and long-term impact. Launched as a pilot initiative in April 2017, the program originally provided up to five grants of $40,000 each over a three-year period. On Thursday, September 18th and Tuesday, September 23rd, Metropolitan Housing & Community Development Corporation had the privilege of partnering with Beaufort County Community College (BCCC) to bring Financial Literacy and Wellness education directly to GED students. Over two days, Karrissa Sutton, Housing Counseling Program Manager & HUD-Certified Housing Counselor, and Julius Oden, Housing Counselor, led a four-hour class designed to equip students with the knowledge and tools needed to build financial stability and prepare for long-term success. On September 9, 2025, I attended the Re-entry Simulation hosted by Trillium in Martin County. What I thought would be a structured exercise quickly became one of the most eye-opening and impactful experiences I have had in understanding the struggles faced by individuals re-entering society after incarceration. The event began with powerful insights from Judge Regina Parker, Chief District Court Judge for District 2, and Jeron Randall, Reentry Coordinator, who spoke about the systemic challenges justice-involved individuals encounter immediately after release. Their remarks set the tone for the simulation, preparing Metroprop for the weight of the choices Metroprop would soon face. I was handed a packet that represented the life of someone just released. In it, I learned whether I had identification, housing, or education, along with a list of my release obligations such as rent, child support, probation check-ins, and mandatory drug screenings. To make things more difficult, I drew a "wild card" that simulated a learning impairment, making it harder to understand key instructions. Others received cards tied to mental health conditions or addiction recovery, each adding another layer of challenge. From Development to Management - Metropolitan Serves with Purpose.
