Requirements
  • Completion of a Family Medicine Residency Program is required.
  • Licensure to practice medicine in North Carolina is required.
  • Certification by the American Board of Family Physicians is required.
  • Appointment in good standing to the medical staff of Mission Health System is required.
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and database applications, are required.
  • Experience using Electronic Medical Records is required.
  • The physician must be able to lift and carry 25–35 pounds and push or pull 50–100 pounds occasionally.
  • Regular on-site attendance is required.
  • The Flu vaccine or an approved exemption is required.
Responsibilities
  • Provide direct clinical care to Family Medicine patients in the ambulatory setting at the Deerfield Retirement Community practice site.
  • Provide direct clinical care and oversight of resident teams in the inpatient setting at Mission Hospital for 5–10 weeks per year.
  • Complete credentialing, documentation, billing, and other institutional professional-work policies in a timely manner.
  • Work effectively with members of the extended interprofessional team.
  • Perform additional clinical duties for emergent situations or as otherwise arranged.
  • Serve as a faculty advisor and mentor for residents.
  • Promote and participate in department education programs, including continuing education, resident education, and student education.
  • Provide didactics in areas of interest in Internal Medicine.
  • Supervise and teach learners in both ambulatory and inpatient environments.
  • Participate in and foster scholarship in the ambulatory setting.
  • Demonstrate commitment to community-based health sciences and research.
  • Pursue scholarly activity.
Desired Qualifications
  • Teaching experience is preferred.
  • Spanish-speaking skills are preferred.

MAHEC provides patient care, education, and research in Western North Carolina. It serves as a branch campus for UNC schools of medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, and public health, hosting the UNC Health Sciences at MAHEC and the UNC Gillings MPH program. It operates multiple clinics including Family Health, Ob/Gyn, Dental Health, and Community Pharmacies, and runs the region’s only high-risk obstetrics practice as a Federally Qualified Health Center Look-Alike. Its mission is to grow and improve the regional health workforce and health outcomes through hands-on clinical care, education from high school to graduate programs, and collaborative research.
