Requirements
  • Must be enrolled as a professional nursing student in a diploma program, associate program, or baccalaureate registered nursing program at an accredited school of nursing.
  • Must provide proof of current, continuing enrollment at the completion of each semester.
  • Must obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of the hire date.
  • Must complete annual required education related to specialty accreditation where applicable.
  • Must be able to perform heavy or hard work requiring strength or stamina, lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, and walking.
  • Must be able to work closely with others, protracted or irregular hours, biohazards, infectious diseases, deceased persons, hands in water, and electrical hazards associated with patient-care equipment.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with staff and patients.
  • Must be able to adapt to changing environments.
Responsibilities
  • Assist assigned patients with activities of daily living in a timely manner.
  • Safely transport patients to tests and procedures and escort patients for discharge.
  • Obtain and record assigned patient temperatures, pulse rates, respiratory rates, blood pressures, intake and output, weight, and abdominal girths.
  • Observe and immediately report patient concerns or changes in condition to a registered nurse.
  • Assist the registered nurse with admission, transfer, discharge, and general patient-care duties.
  • Assist with specimen collection and other activities for assigned patients.
  • Answer patient call bells and relay messages to appropriate staff.
  • Prepare patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment to help prevent or control infections and protect patients, visitors, and employees.
  • Assist with personal hygiene and other patient comfort measures.
  • Act as a sitter for a patient when assigned by the charge registered nurse.
