- A high school diploma, GED, or 10 years of work experience is required.
- One year of experience in a laboratory setting is required.
- Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider certification from the American Heart Association is required.
- Day, evening, and night shift availability is required.
- The role requires frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of objects weighing 0–25 pounds; frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching, and repetitive foot, leg, hand, and arm movements; frequent near and far vision, depth perception, color identification, hearing, oral communication, and keyboard/data-entry use; occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, gripping, and handling objects weighing 25–50 pounds; and rare climbing.
- Load and unload laboratory specimens from automated and non-automated instrumentation and perform waived testing.
- Assist with problem requisitions and specimens.
- Orient new hires when needed.
- Assist customers by answering phones and responding to customer inquiries.
- Collect, label, process, and preserve blood, urine, and other specimens according to established laboratory procedures.
- Enter, access, and execute laboratory orders in the appropriate laboratory and electronic medical record system.
- Clean and maintain laboratory supplies and the work area.
- Update statistical records, label tubes, and schedule processing runs when needed.
- Perform moderate-complexity testing when needed.
- Perform phlebotomy and waived testing when needed.
- Identify patients using two identifiers.
- Perform administrative and clerical duties, including admission activities, insurance verification, order-entry processing, and medical-record processing.
- Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
- Perform other assigned duties.
