Requirements
  • Four to six years of experience.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute the strategic vision for assigned areas while supporting multiple cruise line profiles.
  • Develop merchandising standards onboard and partner with visual and marketing teams to execute the vision and support assortment and sales.
  • Source, develop, and manage relevant vendors; negotiate terms, gross margin, and exclusive agreements.
  • Create execution strategies for customer-centric retail experiences tailored to guest demographics and itineraries.
  • Evolve the strategic vision based on emerging trends, market updates, and white-space opportunities.
  • Maintain competitive market awareness across domestic and travel retail channels in core markets including the United States, Europe, and Asia, as well as seasonal itineraries such as Alaska, Australia, and South America.
  • Review strategies and current category, vendor, and ship performance with the Merchandise Manager.
  • Deliver profitable assortments driven by consumer trends, cruise line demographics, and data-based insights.
  • Manage assortment mix for key items, exclusives, and novelty items through SKU-level performance analysis and consumer-trend monitoring.
  • Create pricing strategies that provide competitive price advantages and consumer savings within each itinerary and market.
  • Optimize SKU counts to establish appropriate assortment breadth and depth based on ship profile and volume.
  • Work with brands on exclusive products and First at Sea assortment opportunities.
  • Prepare for and independently conduct vendor meetings.
  • Use business insights and retail judgment to meet or exceed financial targets and execute category initiatives.
  • Analyze, evaluate, and reset each business and brand by ship, focusing on core, white-space, and exclusive assortment opportunities.
  • Manage inventory currency, process markdowns, and optimize SKUs to maintain clean inventories and age standards.
  • Negotiate favorable margins and vendor support for profit initiatives.
  • Establish product life cycles to manage inventory flow and planned obsolescence.
  • Prepare monthly open-to-buy presentations with the Merchandise Manager and Planning Manager, covering performance, successes, opportunities, and forward-looking strategies.
  • Develop strong relationships with the planning partner through teamwork and communication.
  • Build interdepartmental relationships within Starboard and support effective communication.
  • Leverage organizational relationships to execute strategic priorities and synthesize scalable business opportunities.
  • Drive cross-departmental initiatives through peer collaboration.
  • Lead and develop one or more direct reports.
  • Make independent recommendations and decisions with some managerial guidance.
  • Work 30 hours weekly during core hours, with occasional evening and weekend work as required.
  • Travel 10–25% of the time.
