Memphis airport is building a $7.5 million facility to keep operations running year round.

Memphis airport is building a $7.5 million facility to keep operations running year round. Memphis International Airport is set to begin work on a 49,000-square-foot winter equipment facility, according to a permit filed May 20. The $7.5 million metal-covered structure will have open sides to allow access for snowplows and will house the airport's full fleet of snow removal equipment, protecting it from weather exposure and ensuring the fleet stays ready when Memphis winters get serious. Funding for the project was set aside in April 2024 through the Consolidated Appropriations Act, and the permit was filed by the Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority's director of development, Brian Tenkhoff. The investment reflects a broader push at MEM to stay ahead of winter weather. This past January, a significant ice storm hit the region, and the airport deployed roughly 50 vehicles to clear runways and taxiways. In 2022, MEM opened a $309 million deicing facility for aircraft. This new facility is the next piece of that infrastructure puzzle.

Memphis International Airport launches real-time online parking status feature.

Memphis International Airport launches real-time online parking status feature. MEMPHIS, TENN. (May 18, 2026) - Memphis International Airport has launched a real-time online parking status feature at www.flymemphis.com. The feature provides live capacity updates from each of MEM's parking lots, giving passengers detailed parking availability before they arrive at the airport. The real-time parking status feature is the latest parking enhancement introduced at MEM. Parking improvements in the last few years include: * Introducing a new parking management system, including enhanced features such as Tap-to-Pay and License Plate Recognition (LPR). * Expansion of the Yellow Lot, increasing total parking capacity by 685 * Launching of shuttle service to and from the Yellow and Blue Lots * Addition of a level-counting system in the economy parking garage, which provides parking availability by level. * Installation of display systems to provide approaching drivers with quick information about parking lot status. * Lighting improvements in the blue and yellow lots, the cell phone lot and the three-story garage. MEM also offers MEMperks, a frequent parker program that allows passengers accrue points when parking at the airport. The points can then be exchanged for free parking. The airport is also currently working to install a new parking guidance system, which will combine traffic monitoring, onsite communication, and parking sensor technologies to improve travelers' parking experiences. The system will display red and green lights at each space to help drivers to find unoccupied parking spaces. It will also help passengers locate their cars when returning from trips. The parking guidance system is expected to be completed in late 2026. Site search. Search news posts. Translate. Welcome to the MEM press room!
