Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • At least 6 months of experience in a laboratory, industrial, custodial, manufacturing, food-processing, or similarly structured work environment is required.
  • Ability to follow written procedures, safety protocols, and detailed instructions.
  • Basic familiarity with cleaning, sanitizing, or handling laboratory glassware.
  • Ability to use simple measuring, monitoring, or recording tools.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and complete required checklists.
  • Ability to work independently after receiving required training.
  • Ability to communicate problems, unsafe conditions, and unusual findings promptly.
  • Applicants must complete a favorably completed Tier 2 background investigation and may be required to complete fingerprinting, electronic background-investigation forms, and credentialing.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare laboratory media, solutions, reagents, and standards by weighing, measuring, mixing, labeling, adjusting pH, and heating materials as directed.
  • Follow laboratory quality procedures and Standard Operating Procedures while handling chemical additives and preparing materials for sterilization.
  • Load and operate autoclaves according to established procedures and sterilize prepared media, laboratory containers, and waste materials.
  • Maintain accurate sterilization and equipment-use records.
  • Assist with aseptic and non-aseptic preparation of laboratory samples and place prepared samples into approved containers.
  • Handle frozen, refrigerated, and room-temperature samples using laboratory tools and equipment including food processors, blenders, homogenizers, and grinders.
  • Wash, rinse, dry, sterilize, inspect, and store laboratory glassware and containers manually and with automatic dishwashing equipment.
  • Collect, separate, and transfer contaminated, dirty, used, biological, chemical, and general laboratory waste to appropriate decontamination or disposal areas.
  • Use required personal protective equipment when handling waste and report spills, damaged containers, and unsafe conditions.
  • Clean and organize laboratory work areas, counters, equipment areas, support spaces, pathways, and workstations.
  • Replenish cleaning materials and supplies and follow contamination-control and sanitation procedures.
  • Perform routine checks of eyewash and emergency shower stations and document daily and weekly safety inspections.
  • Follow Occupational Safety and Health Administration requirements and FDA safety procedures.
  • Place temperature sensors in temperature-controlled equipment, collect monitoring data, retrieve records, compare results with acceptance criteria, and help compile temperature-mapping reports.
  • Maintain equipment-verification logs and report readings outside approved ranges.
  • Monitor deionized-water systems by checking meters, tank levels, pressure gauges, indicator lights, ultraviolet lamps, brine tanks, salt and water levels, and residual chlorine.
  • Record deionized-water monitoring results on quality-assurance sheets or laboratory logbooks and notify laboratory personnel of irregular readings or system problems.
  • Complete assigned logs, checklists, and monitoring records accurately.
  • Maintain inventory, equipment-verification, and waste-management documentation.
  • Report incomplete work, equipment problems, supply shortages, and safety concerns.
  • Support quality-control reviews and correct identified documentation or procedural issues.
  • Protect Government information, equipment, and laboratory materials.
