Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Certification in a relevant specialty is required.
  • A valid Florida Driver’s License is required.
  • At least one year of relevant experience is required.
  • Candidates must have performance and knowledge in the craft environment of Building Maintenance and/or Facilities Management for at least one year.
  • Candidates must have at least one year of full-time experience in energy control systems or low-voltage electrical devices and panels, related to the installation, programming, and service of building electrical and direct digital control systems.
  • Candidates must have basic programming knowledge in a Building Automation System environment.
  • Candidates must communicate effectively in oral and written form.
  • Candidates must complete assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Candidates must analyze, organize, and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
  • Candidates must be able to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
  • Candidates must observe safety rules, regulations, Occupational Safety and Health Administration requirements, and proper equipment-handling procedures.
Responsibilities
  • Support higher-level energy technicians in maintaining, operating, and repairing energy systems.
  • Keep tradespeople supplied with materials and tools and assist them by holding materials and tools.
  • Clean work areas, machines, and equipment.
  • Perform unskilled or semi-skilled work using independent judgment and perform other tasks as directed and supervised by tradespeople.
  • Remain available for emergency call-ins.
  • Perform timely preventive maintenance and service on assigned equipment and systems, including identifying, solving, and preventing problems.
  • Assist in programming, monitoring, and adjusting multiple Building Management Systems.
  • Interpret equipment and system output, detect errors, and take corrective action.
  • Work and communicate with building end users to identify and meet their requirements.
  • Identify, document, and report opportunities to reduce energy consumption.
  • Use basic diagnostic and test equipment and interpret and document operations-related malfunctions.
  • Interpret applicable reference manuals and guides and apply department procedures when completing assigned work.
  • Set up and operate assigned systems and equipment according to established procedures.
  • Maintain familiarity with MS/TP and TCP/IP network topologies and operating system requirements.
  • Attend assigned training sessions to maintain knowledge of new Building Management Systems and technologies.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and physical maintenance of mechanical rooms and utility-plant storage facilities.
  • Assist with efficient planning and support Facilities Managers and the Director with daily shop operations.
  • Assist Facilities and Operations with unforeseen emergencies during normal, on-call, or emergency scenarios.
  • Inspect University vehicles, tools, and equipment and report issues promptly.
  • Perform routine building inspections, take corrective action, and report deficiencies or needed action to the Director.
  • Document and maintain records of work performed, time spent, and tools, parts, and consumables used.
  • Coordinate activities with other trade areas, project managers, and outside contractors.
  • Provide accurate estimates and complete work within estimated costs.
  • Prioritize and identify appropriate resources, including tools, materials, and contractors, to resolve maintenance problems.
  • Manage contractors and outsourced functions when required.
  • Implement and adhere to University energy-conservation practices.
  • Complete documents such as time cards and work orders properly and promptly.
  • Adhere to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguard University assets.
Desired Qualifications
  • A trade school certificate is preferred.
  • Overall basic knowledge of Building Maintenance and/or Facilities Management, including applicable system and related technical terminology, applications, features, and/or services, is preferred.
