Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Basic knowledge of legal terminology, discovery, pleadings, and civil court deadlines.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize assignments while maintaining organization and attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow directions and type at a minimum of 60 words per minute.
  • Knowledge of legal terminology and legal document management, including briefs, summonses, complaints, motions, pleadings, and discovery.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, including correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Ability to compose or draft routine pleadings and correspondence.
  • Ability to utilize and process available resources.
  • Ability to accurately calendar and manage conflicts across multiple calendars.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Responsibilities
  • Work closely with attorneys to draft letters and legal documents.
  • Prepare and assemble documents, including transmittal forms and envelopes, in the proper format.
  • Complete typing and word-processing assignments involving correspondence, pleadings, subpoenas, and related legal documents.
  • Prepare documents for filing with the court.
  • Produce quality written communications and correct and edit documents to ensure proper format and accuracy.
  • Prepare answers, cross-complaints, discovery, and pleadings as directed by the handling attorney.
  • Maintain transcripts, documents, and evidence.
  • Handle files with minimal exposure and complexity, including typical soft-tissue injury claims with no risk.
  • Maintain records of claims, legal documents, and case activity.
  • Work with attorneys to assist in workflow processes.
  • Coordinate legal services such as court reporting, copying, and delivery agencies.
  • Ensure all work is prepared and submitted on time.
  • Apply knowledge of court deadlines, Rules of Court, document-processing requirements, and office and court processes.
  • Handle routine correspondence and inquiries with attorneys, clients, adjusters, and courts by written and telephone communication.
  • Communicate with claims personnel, opposing counsel, and clients regarding legal files.
  • Complete daily activities and assignments in a logical, effective, and timely manner.
  • Schedule court reporters, expert witnesses, and other experts for testimony at depositions and trial.
  • Classify, sort, and file correspondence, articles, records, and other documents.
  • Operate standard and automated office equipment, including word processors, typewriters, transcribing software, case management software, and photocopiers.
  • Maintain attorneys' calendars by accurately recording court dates and appearances.
  • Schedule meetings, depositions, and appointments.
  • Assemble documents, reports, and information for meetings.
  • Arrange meeting spaces and secure conference rooms as needed.
  • Inform participants of meeting dates, times, and locations.
  • Resolve calendar conflicts by prioritizing and coordinating rescheduled dates.
  • Track deadlines connected with appearances.
  • Track deadlines associated with daily job duties and upcoming assignments.
  • Schedule internal conferences related to legal files.
  • Update job knowledge through educational opportunities.
  • Read and understand professional publications regarding changes in court rules and procedures.
  • Keep current with changes in court procedures and policies.
Desired Qualifications
  • Vocational certification or training in the legal field.
  • A minimum of 1-2 years of insurance defense or civil litigation experience, or relevant work experience in the legal field.
  • Knowledge of federal and state court rules and e-filing procedures.
  • Familiarity with litigation management software systems.
  • Ability to adapt and act quickly when urgent matters require it.
  • Trial experience.
