Requirements
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, faculty, students, and other stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated strong problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently prioritize workload, manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively, and follow through on tasks.
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds with or without assistance, lift materials overhead, and stand or move for over two hours a day.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States without requiring employer sponsorship.
Responsibilities
  • Provide complex support for the day-to-day operations of library services, including guidance in the use of library information resources, operations, and policies.
  • Contribute to the development of policies and procedures.
  • Participate in committee work within the library and the university.
  • Foster a safe and secure library environment for patrons, staff, collections, and facilities, including onsite response to safety and security emergencies.
  • Assist and educate face-to-face and remote customers in using technologies and tools to create, seek, use, and manage information.
  • Interpret policies and procedures to answer non-routine questions and resolve complex issues.
  • Use designated library systems, tools, standards, and practices to locate, retrieve, and organize, or describe, edit, preserve, and reformat, library information resources.
  • Use library software and systems to retrieve, enter, and report data using a wide variety of applications.
  • Create invoices, process complex orders, and resolve purchasing discrepancies as needed.
  • Provide complex library-services support in the absence of supervisory authority and act as a resource to other library staff.
  • Conduct reference searches to locate relevant materials and answer questions as needed.
  • Hire, train, and guide student employees and monitor student workflows.
  • Facilitate and strengthen Access Services student staff members' relationship with the Libraries through management, hiring, training, and mentorship.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement within Access Services through policy development, alignment of departmental strategy with library strategic directions, service assessment, and community building.
  • Assist patrons with navigating UW-Madison resources and identify areas for service improvement.
  • Manage regular circulation services and collection maintenance tasks related to providing access to library patrons and the community.
  • Conduct building rounds and manage overnight access procedures, including preparation for Wiscard-only access and ensuring appropriate use of library spaces in accordance with the Libraries Code of Conduct.
  • Work as the library's Manager on Duty, overseeing the general functioning of library services, coordinating circulation, supervising student staff, and applying policies and procedures.
  • Handle facilities issues and manage closing duties.
