Requirements
  • The incumbent must demonstrate advanced-beginner knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-specific patient care.
  • The incumbent must be able to assess and interpret patient data to identify patient requirements.
  • A current Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which services will be provided or a current multi-state Registered Nurse license through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification must be obtained within 30 days of the hire date.
  • Two years of registered nursing experience are required.
  • Annual education related to specialty accreditation must be completed when applicable.
  • The employee must be able to lift, move, stoop, reach, stand, walk, and carry materials and equipment weighing 40 or more pounds.
  • Visual acuity within the normal range is required.
  • Hearing within the normal range is required to assess breath sounds, bowel sounds, apical pulse, and monitors.
  • The employee must be able to work protracted or irregular hours, around biohazards and infectious diseases, with or near the deceased, with hands in water, and with electrical hazards associated with patient care equipment.
  • The employee must possess interpersonal skills to communicate, negotiate, and resolve conflict.
  • The employee must use competent clinical practice and critical thinking skills to deliver patient care efficiently.
  • The employee must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • The employee must be able to work successfully under highly stressful conditions and adapt to varying workloads and work assignments.
  • Employees hired onto Fairmont Medical Surgical Services are expected to train to other service lines as time and need allow.
Responsibilities
  • The Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care for patients in an inpatient hospital setting.
  • The incumbent delivers nursing care through the nursing process and accepts accountability for care provided by self and delegated healthcare providers.
  • The incumbent prioritizes patient diagnoses, problems, issues, and mutual goals to meet patient and healthcare-team needs.
  • The incumbent serves as a resource for patient and family learning needs.
  • The incumbent coordinates with the interprofessional team to manage changing priorities.
  • The incumbent functions as an independent team member to provide safe, quality care for patients.
  • The incumbent mentors colleagues in acquiring clinical knowledge, skills, abilities, and judgment.
  • The incumbent participates in developing and continuously improving systems that support the patient care planning process.
  • The incumbent leads interprofessional teams to collaborate and consult effectively.
  • The incumbent designs innovations to improve outcomes.
  • The incumbent assists other nurses in developing research skills.
  • The incumbent participates in collaborative planning to provide safe, high-quality, patient-centered healthcare.

Desired Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) or higher.
  • Certification is preferred but not required for CAPE Level 3.
  • Completion of one specialty certification for CAPE Level 4, Level 5, or Level 6.
  • Consideration is given to other health-related advanced degrees that would assist with direct patient care at the bedside for CAPE Level 6.
