Requirements
  • Earned Doctor of Nursing Practice degree as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • Candidates should be eligible for South Carolina APRN licensure and hold national certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner with at least two years of APRN practice experience in primary care or related settings.
  • Experience in quality improvement, evidence-based practice, program implementation/evaluation, and/or policy, as well as effective interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills and abilities.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or the Military Training Network.
Responsibilities
  • Facilitate an asynchronous online teaching and learning environment.
  • Implement innovative, competency based online teaching strategies.
  • Participate in on-campus Doctor of Nursing Practice program learning intensives on days not in the clinical setting.
  • Implement curriculum as part of a team and participate in ongoing and annual curriculum reviews and changes that support contemporary trends and requirements in graduate education.
  • Lead or work on faculty team(s) to develop and modify academic courses to ensure ongoing quality improvement and mapping of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing Essentials for Nursing Education.
  • Assume the role of Course Coordinator and other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain communication with course coordinators, faculty colleagues, and administrators.
  • Engage in professional Nurse Practitioner practice in primary care or a related field as part of the faculty contract, dedicating a minimum of 20% effort (8 hours/week). Clinical responsibilities and practice site arrangements will be established in collaboration with the College of Nursing Office of Practice and negotiated with affiliated practice partners.
  • Precept MUSC College of Nursing APRN students in the practice setting.
  • Maintain Family Nurse Practitioner credentials, licensure, and national certifications required to practice as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • Maintain a record of scholarship through dissemination, presentations, and publications that are consistent with the college appointment, promotion, and tenure guidelines.
  • Supervise APRN students in clinical settings as clinical faculty, evaluate clinical logs, and communicate with preceptors.
  • Facilitate Doctor of Nursing Practice scholarly project work as assigned.
  • Attend course, program, and college meetings in person or via web-based technology.
  • Adhere to MUSC College of Nursing policies.
  • Maintain proficiency as an educator and clinician.
Desired Qualifications
  • Earned Doctor of Nursing Practice degree in Nursing or doctoral degree in nursing or a related field (preferred).
  • Current national board certification as a Nurse Practitioner (preferred).
  • Demonstrated evidence of commitment to professional scholarship (preferred).
  • Demonstrated evidence of prior teaching experience, including precepting APRN students, and experience with or interest in quality improvement, evidence-based practice, program implementation/evaluation, and/or policy, competency based education focusing on student-centric learning (preferred).
  • Experience in graduate online teaching methods (preferred).
  • Motivated candidate without teaching experience who meets educational requirements (current board certification and practice as a Nurse Practitioner) will be considered (desirable).
