Requirements
  • A Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from an accredited institution is required.
  • Completion of a residency program in Internal Medicine or Pediatrics is required.
  • Completion of a two-year fellowship training program in Allergy and Immunology is required.
  • Board certification in Allergy and Immunology by the American Board of Allergy and Immunology, or board eligibility, is required.
  • A valid and unrestricted Delaware medical license is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • The physician must have diagnostic, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • The physician must be proficient in using diagnostic equipment and electronic health record systems.
Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and treat allergic and immunologic conditions, including asthma, hay fever, food allergies, eczema, sinusitis, and inherited immunodeficiency diseases.
  • Order, perform, and interpret skin prick tests, blood tests including immunoglobulin E measurements, patch tests, and pulmonary function tests such as spirometry.
  • Create and implement individualized, evidence-based treatment plans, including prescribing medications and administering allergen immunotherapy or immunoglobulin therapy.
  • Educate patients and their families about diagnoses, prognoses, treatment options, allergen avoidance techniques, and lifestyle modifications.
  • Collaborate with primary care physicians, pulmonologists, dermatologists, and other healthcare professionals to provide integrated patient care.
  • Maintain accurate, detailed, and timely electronic health records containing patient histories, examinations, test results, diagnoses, and treatment plans.
  • Manage emergencies related to severe allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis.
  • Engage in self-directed learning and continuing medical education activities to remain current with research, advancements, and treatment protocols in allergy and immunology.
