Requirements
  • A master's degree in substance use, counseling, social work, public health, higher education administration, or a closely related field is required.
  • A personal background in recovery is required.
  • A Peer Recovery Support Specialist certification, or commitment to complete the certification within one year of hire, is required.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and computer skills are required.
  • Professional verbal and written English communication skills are required.
  • Discretion and the ability to maintain confidential information are required.
  • Experience facilitating recovery groups, mentoring, or advocacy is required.
  • Knowledge of addiction, recovery, recovery support services, harm reduction, trauma-informed care, wellness strategies, and multiple paths to recovery is required.
  • Familiarity with college systems and student life is required.
  • Experience working with diverse populations is required.
  • Commitment to recovery values and peer-based support principles is required.
  • Ability to supervise and train student personnel is required.
  • Ability to ethically maintain professional care and confidentiality standards is required.
  • Ability to work independently, be flexible, and proactively pursue collaborations is required.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes some evenings and weekends is required.
  • A valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, driving approval, and liability insurance are required when driving for work.
  • Occasional travel to local and campus locations may be required.
Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate the University's recovery program and support initiatives.
  • Provide individual coaching and mentorship to university community members who are in or exploring recovery, including helping them identify interests, goals, strengths, and growth areas.
  • Facilitate and lead recovery support meetings, workshops, wellness events, and community activities.
  • Deliver recovery-focused education across pre-recovery engagement, recovery initiation and stabilization, and sustained recovery maintenance.
  • Serve as a role model for individuals in recovery and staff by demonstrating that recovery is achievable.
  • Share personal recovery experiences and recovery pathways through presentations to faculty and staff.
  • Assist with outreach efforts to increase awareness of recovery resources on campus.
  • Build a supportive, judgment-free, and inclusive environment within the Flames [Re]ignited community.
  • Connect individuals with on- and off-campus resources and refer them to appropriate professional resources when needed.
  • Promote engagement in community activities involving employment, education, relationships, physical wellness, and self-directed hobbies.
  • Track program data, outcomes, and student engagement for reporting and program improvement.
  • Maintain confidentiality and ethical boundaries in all interactions.
  • Participate in training, supervision, and continuing education.
  • Manage the recovery email inbox, respond to phone inquiries, and complete related administrative tasks.
  • Participate in CARE and Support initiatives and Student Affairs activities and meetings.
  • Oversee maintenance of the recovery lounge and conference room.
  • Submit referrals when there are concerns about an individual's safety or the safety of others.
  • Collaborate with CARE staff regarding case information and communication with university community members and external parties.
  • Follow Liberty University policies and represent the University appropriately.
  • Supervise and train the Student Work Assistant and other student personnel designated to the recovery program.
  • Participate in continuing professional development activities to maintain competency.
Desired Qualifications
  • At least one year of experience is preferred.
  • Experience planning, implementing, and evaluating health promotion programs is desirable.
  • Experience collaborating, volunteering, or working with recovery community organizations is desirable.
