Requirements
  • Graduation from a Personal Support Worker program or a provincial-equivalent certificate program with a minimum of 500 hours of theory and practicum in Ontario and Alberta.
  • Experience working with seniors in a community health services setting.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer-focus skills.
  • Demonstrated skills and knowledge in providing personal care duties.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support and First Aid certification.
  • Ability to perform tasks necessary for the position, including lifting and transferring clients.
  • A current Vulnerable Position/Sector Screening completed within the past six months.
Responsibilities
  • Adhere to the plan of care determined by the manager.
  • Facilitate residents’ move-ins and transfers where applicable.
  • Observe and report residents’ or clients’ care and service using appropriate company forms or tools.
  • Assist residents or clients with personal care, hygiene, and activities of daily living.
  • Observe and report changes in residents’ or clients’ conditions to the supervisor.
  • Escalate medical emergencies to the supervisor or emergency medical services as appropriate.
  • Plan and prepare nutritious meals as required.
  • Assist with ambulation, mobilization, transferring, and adaptive aids.
  • Demonstrate understanding of resident or client needs and maximize their abilities.
  • Provide cognitive, social, emotional, and psychological support to residents, clients, and families.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of resident and client information.
  • Respond to resident, client, and family concerns and take appropriate action within decision-making authority, communicating concerns to the manager when necessary.
  • Help maintain a safe and clean environment, including residents’ or clients’ equipment, belongings, and nursing equipment.
  • Report client-safety concerns to the Director of Care or Health and Wellness Manager, implement interventions as directed by the supervisor, and advocate for client safety.
  • Engage with other agencies involved in resident or client care as directed.
  • Attend in-service sessions to develop knowledge and skills.
  • Uphold and promote the organization’s values and philosophy regarding ethics, morality, and integrity as set out in the Code of Conduct.
  • Complete other assigned tasks.
