  • A Pennsylvania Pharmacy Technician License is required.
  • National pharmacy technician certification is required.
  • A professional demeanor and the ability to respect the confidentiality of patient data are required.
  • The role requires understanding of medical terminology, pharmaceutical calculations, pharmacy procedures, medication brand and generic names, insurance plans and plan rules, and third-party payment systems.
  • The role requires the ability to type at least 35 words per minute and knowledge of computer operations.
  • The employee must successfully complete on-the-job training in each department area within the first six months of employment.
  • The employee must pass the pharmacy math competency test.
  • The employee must demonstrate understanding of pharmaceutical and medical terminology, pharmaceutical calculations, and general pharmacy procedures within the first six months of employment.
  • The employee must be able to perform heavy work, including occasionally lifting or carrying 100 pounds and frequently lifting or carrying 50 pounds.
  • The employee must stand or walk for at least six hours in an eight-hour workday and frequently stoop, crouch, and handle objects.
  • The employee must maintain confidentiality of patient information and comply with employee, patient, and environmental safety policies.
Responsibilities
  • Follow pharmacy workflow procedures and process patient medication orders across the Pick-Up, Drop-Off, and Production workstations.
  • Identify and resolve medication or insurance-related problems in collaboration with pharmacy teams, medical staff, insurance companies, and customers.
  • Fill medications from computer-generated labels and assist the pharmacist with filling prescription items as permitted by the State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Answer telephone and window inquiries, assist visitors, and direct drug information questions to a pharmacist.
  • Label products with appropriate cautionary and auxiliary labels.
  • Take inventory, place orders, check in drugs and supplies, stock shelves, remove outdated items, and maintain medication par levels.
  • Enter patient data and medication orders into the pharmacy computer system.
  • Prepare emulsions, liquids, powders, and ointments.
  • Package medications for dispensing and delivery, and process return-to-stock medications.
  • Deliver or retrieve medications when directed by the supervising pharmacist.
  • Communicate with insurance carriers to obtain payment for prescription claims and verify prescriptions at the point of sale.
  • Communicate with prescribers and their agents to obtain refill authorization.
  • Perform administrative duties as assigned and keep the work area clean and organized.
  • Participate in training new employees and provide additional help when needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality and properly release information in accordance with Network and departmental policies.
  • Demonstrate performance improvement, financial responsibility, and accountability in daily procedures and processes.
  • Comply with attendance and dress-code policies and demonstrate age-appropriate communication and care practices.
Desired Qualifications
  • Three to five years of retail pharmacy experience is preferred.
  • Data-entry experience is a plus.
