Requirements
  • A minimum high school diploma or Grade 12 education is required.
  • A minimum of two years of security-related experience is required.
  • Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada.
  • Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a Restricted Access Identification Card.
  • Candidates must successfully complete a communication and computer knowledge evaluation.
  • General knowledge of access control, alarm, telephone, computer, and closed-circuit television systems is required.
  • A Restricted Radio Operator’s Certificate – Marine is required.
  • Knowledge of the airport physical site, its systems, and the responsible parties is required.
  • Knowledge of airport stakeholders, tenants, and service providers is required.
  • Comprehensive understanding of applicable plans, maps, and standard operating procedures is required.
  • A minimum of 300 hours of training in the Airport Operations Communication Centre is required.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of applicable security policies, acts, codes, and legislation, including the Criminal Code, the Private Security and Investigative Services Act, the Trespass to Property Act, the Fire Code, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, and the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System is required.
  • A valid security licence, a valid Ontario G or higher driver’s licence with a clean driving abstract, and Standard First Aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification are required.
  • Candidates must be willing to provide a criminal record check upon request.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and active listening skills are required.
  • Strong multitasking skills and the ability to work under pressure are required.
  • Candidates must be able to work nights, weekends, weekdays, and holidays.
Responsibilities
  • Monitor and operate access control, closed-circuit television, and other intrusion systems.
  • Respond to routine and emergency calls for service and various alarms.
  • Gather critical information to initiate appropriate responses and prioritize those responses.
  • Control restricted-access doors using automated access control systems.
  • Determine emergency assistance requirements and activate the appropriate agencies, divisions, units, or individuals.
  • Monitor status, provide situational updates, and track on-duty units and resources using telecommunications devices and systems.
  • Acquire information to analyze and anticipate escalating or de-escalating situations.
  • Provide support to resolve problems, issues, and complaints.
  • Provide information to employees and the public about the airport.
  • Sign out visitor passes.
  • Record all information in Ports Toronto’s Records Management System.
  • Liaise with supervisors and airport management.
  • Answer multiple telephone lines and radios, including the Airport Emergency line, primarily through Ports Toronto’s integrated communication system.
  • Perform other related duties or assignments as directed.
Desired Qualifications
  • Education in emergency communications, dispatch, aviation operations, or security is an asset.
