Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • TNCAP certification targets spring 2026, opening recurring Taiwan homologation revenue.
  • NASA's FDRF work validated Calspan's engineering brand before North Wind's 2026 ribbon-cutting.
  • USNTPS and NASA relationships create sticky federal revenue and credibility for adjacent programs.

What critics are saying

  • TransDigm sold hypersonic and defense test systems in May 2024, shrinking Calspan's strategic scope.
  • Calspan now competes against larger validation networks like Euro NCAP-approved labs and in-house OEM test centers.
  • If automotive or government contracts slip, Buffalo operations lose utilization and bargaining power fast.

What makes Calspan unique

  • January 2026 TNCAP certification makes Calspan North America's only full-scope TNCAP lab.
  • February 20, 2026 USNTPS renewed Calspan's Learjet contract, extending a 60-year relationship.
  • Calspan still runs transonic wind tunnel testing, crash, sled, and pedestrian protection labs.
