Requirements
  • Prior dialysis experience or acute care experience.
  • At least nine months of experience as a Registered Nurse.
  • Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Current appropriate state licensure.
  • Current or successfully completed Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Basic Life Support certification.
  • Ability to meet practice requirements in all states in which the employee is employed.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions involving heavy lifting, moving patients, assisting with ambulation, prolonged standing, bending, and moving equipment with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Availability for travel to training or meeting sites and between assigned facilities.
  • Availability for on-call rotation, night, weekend, and holiday work as required by program needs.
Responsibilities
  • Provide and coordinate clinically competent care, including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation, for an assigned group of patients.
  • Delegate appropriate tasks to registered nurses, licensed vocational or practical nurses, and patient care technicians when appropriate.
  • Participate in decision-making, teaching, leadership functions, and quality-improvement activities that enhance patient outcomes and program operations.
  • Perform ongoing systematic collection and analysis of patient data before, during, and after treatment, document it in the patient medical record, modify treatment plans as indicated, and notify appropriate clinical personnel.
  • Assess, collaborate on, and document patients' and families' basic learning needs to provide initial and ongoing education.
  • Recognize abnormal aspects and implications of patient status and report or collaborate with appropriate health-team members.
  • Direct and provide safe, effective patient care for assigned patients according to prescribed modality-specific treatment procedures.
  • Assess daily patient-care needs and collaborate with direct and ancillary patient-care staff.
  • Coordinate communication with Fresenius Kidney Care and non-Fresenius dialysis providers and contracted-facility personnel to provide continuity of care.
  • Implement, administer, monitor, and document patients' responses to prescribed intradialytic transfusions, including notification of physicians and blood suppliers about adverse reactions.
  • Administer prescribed medications and document medical justification and effectiveness.
  • Initiate and assist with emergency-response measures.
  • Serve as a resource for the health-care team and participate in staff training and orientation of new staff as assigned.
  • Provide specialized nursing-care instruction to hospital or facility staff when contractually required.
  • Assist in an outpatient facility as needed.
  • Complete Clinical Advancement Program requirements to advance.
  • Provide assigned oversight of patient care technicians, licensed vocational or practical nurses, and registered nurses as Nurse in Charge after completing required education and modality-specific training.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Supervisor.
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior acute dialysis experience.
  • Hemodialysis and/or intensive care unit experience.
  • Twelve months of experience as a Registered Nurse.
  • Six months of acute dialysis experience.
