Requirements
  • A high school diploma, GED, apprenticeship classes, or trade school training is required.
  • Welding vocational school training or 3–5 years of TIG welding experience may be substituted for a certificate.
  • At least 5–7 years of welding experience in the gas turbine industry is required.
  • Must be available to work days, nights, weekends, holidays, and mandatory overtime as required.
  • Full knowledge of TIG welding procedures, practices, and techniques is required to weld or fuse metals.
  • Familiarity with power generation and turbine equipment is required.
  • Knowledge of nondestructive examination techniques, including dye penetrant testing, is required.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools associated with TIG welding, including chipping hammers, grinders, and sanders, is required.
  • Ability to use standard precision measuring instruments and hand tools, including tape measures, levels, squares, files, and rasps, is required.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints, sketches, procedures, and other specifications is required.
  • Knowledge of welding in horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions is required.
  • Strong customer service experience explaining needed repairs and determining scheduling time frames is required.
  • Ability to lead diaphragm welders and supervise work at the customer site when necessary is required.
  • Full understanding of associated mathematical arithmetic is required.
  • Good visual and auditory acuity is required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with an emphasis on strong interpersonal relationships, are required.
Responsibilities
  • Perform routine maintenance, troubleshoot technical malfunctions, and complete repairs across the full scope of work.
  • Conduct detailed hands-on inspections of turbine structures and assist employees and the site operations supervisor with expertise on component damage and wear.
  • Assess degradation of turbine nozzle parts and hardware and communicate risks, findings, and deficiencies to the site operations supervisor and internal stakeholders.
  • Use diagnostic tools, including micrometers and oscilloscopes, to evaluate current and incoming vane parts.
  • Assist the operations supervisor or manager in enforcing personal protective equipment initiatives and site safety protocols.
  • Maintain related paperwork, including routers and current and new employee training records.
  • Communicate on-time delivery status for nozzle projects across departments.
  • Assist with departmental root cause analyses associated with department components.
  • Provide subject-matter technical advice and technical support on designated manufacturing processes and deviations to current and new employees.
  • Perform other associated departmental duties assigned by management.
